Why is marijuana not legal?

i personally think that the government has put in so much effort and money into giving it an antisocial and illegal label and lumping it together with all other available drugs, theres no going back until the brainwashed generation die out.

lets face it, the majority of the population are anti drugs and throughout their lives have been brain-washed into believing 'illegal drugs are bad'. For the state to then dennounce marijuana as an illegal drug, would cause an uproar from the public. This mentality is too deep rooted in society

so to sum up, the majority rule, and due to peoples beliefs that this drug is bad, and democracy, in this day and age marijuana will continue to be an illegal substance.

great question dont know it should be never kills anyone and is less dangerous than alcohol and cigarettes but yet you can buy that in the store. america's law's just dont make sense sometimes.

And folks can whine about it, debate about it, all day long here and accomplish nothing.

If you really want to change the law -- do something about it.

And for the goober who said we don't legalize it because of taxes -- well, duh, we'd have to regulate and tax it if it did become legal. Government would make a load of dough from the taxes. I think it goes much, much deeper than simply taxes.

Frankly I don't care. Don't smoke it, never will. Don't smoke cigarettes either. So I don't have a bandwagon to join about it. If you care, though, DO SOMETHING. I'm sure the blacks of the 1950s thought they would never see any changes. Yet the changes happened because rather than sit around and whine, folks got up and marched. They made a difference.

OK, off the soapbox now. I just tired of whiners!!!

I really don't know...........you can get a fifth of vodka and just get @hit faced by a joint will get you jail time...........go figure.....

What a guy!!

With one joint you have a very good evening. That's a pound for a good night in or out; it doesn't matter when you're stoned. The government makes a fantastic quantity of revenue from the taxes on alcohol and tobacco; which they would lose if pot and the likes became legal. It's all about taxes. People don't commit crimes to get a pound to buy a joint, anybody can afford a pound for a good night in or out ...... it really doesn't matter when you're stoned! People become very friendly and mellow after a joint, then perhaps the money for id cards could be put into job creation, instead of more police; who only slow down human evolution anyway. There's much more to that last sentence than most people would ever imagine.

If you don't believe me about the police, read Robert Peel's submission to parliament in Hansard. That's if Hansard goes back that far.
