I was fired from a job for not doing an illegal act that my boss ordered me to do. He wanted to cheat my fellow employees from their profit sharing accounts fair shares because the investments were losing money and he didn't want them to receive their defined shares after leaving the firm.

Just put it down so they know you have the experience. I just don't recommend getting a reference letter from that employer or putting that boss as a reference. If an interviewer asks you what happened with your last job, just tell the truth. The interviewer will problably be impressed for telling the truth and acting morally on your last job. Good Luck. Resumes only outline experience, you do not have to tell your hopeful employer wether you quit or were fired on a resume, only how long you did that job, what tasks you performed, what you were responsible for, what you learned while you were there, etc. most of the time reason for leaving is on the actual job application, I would say it would be a good rule of thumb that if they ask just be honest and if they dont ask it apparently isn't important to them so just leave it alone. |

I would say if you can figure out a way to not mention it, that would be better. You could just fill the space in your resume with a fake job with a fake company and make a friend the contact. |

That is really up to you. If you were there for an extended period of time it will look odd having a period of time that you were not employed. Do not lie about the dates of your other jobs or make up a job in its place, like some of the other answers suggested. This could be found out easier and would have worse consequences than putting it on. If you decide to put it on, you don't have to give contact information, or maybe you can get a different reference from someone else at that company who worked with you. Having positive letters of recommendation from anyone will make an interviewers job so much easier that they might not even think about that spot on your resume. |
