Why shouldn't you get an online degree for a paralegal? ?

Why shouldn't you get an online degree for a paralegal? ?

I am a single mother of twin boys they are about to be four, so its a little hard on time and money. I really have no way to put them into a daycare while I go to school. So I was thinking about an online degree. But I just noticed someone that said "don't get an online degree". Why? Will people not be as likely to hire you? I really need information. Thank you to any one that can offer help. :-)

Online STUDY is a good thing - it will take years to get your degree (similar time to attending college). This is good.

But if you are talking about a quick and easy fix "get your degree in 2 weeks with free steak knives thrown in" on the internet don't waste a cent on it!! It will be worth less than nothing!

Online degrees are fine with one exception - non-accredited schools. If you get the degree, make sure both the school and degree are fully accredited by a regional accrediting agency. Without the accreditation, many employers will not accept the degree as fulfilling the education requirements for the job.

Poster Steve D is the closest on target with the problem of online paralegal degree programs. The Penn Foster Career School as another poster suggested is NOT accredited by the American Bar Association. That is key and what 99.9% of law firms and offices look for. It indicates what the school taught you follows the ABA academic curriculum. Additionally, there are certain things you learn in paralegal school no way in heck you can learn online. You are given on hands instruction in certain areas and how to fill out various legal forms. Again, you cannot be taught this online which is why the ABA has never approved an online institution. This is just like the Concord School of Law. An online program and ABA does not recognize them. In fact, if you graduate from this online program you are only allowed to take the Bar exam in the state of California. Let me lastly add, per that Foster school website it states in the States of California and South Dakota, a Paralegal Diploma will not qualify graduates for employment as paralegals.
