Will I lose my unemployment if I refuse this job?
Find answers to your legal question.

Will I lose my unemployment if I refuse this job?

So I havent been offered the job, but just in case.
I was laid off from my job. I am now collecting unemployment and have been doing and exhaustive job search. I had an interview earlier this week. The job pays $6,000 less than what I used to make, its not in my field AND the health insurance will cost me $80+ a week!! I could probably deal with it if the insurance weren't so expensive, but if offered this job I will have close to nothing to pay bills with after that and taxes.
I live in New York State by the way.
Help! What can I do? can I refuse this job? And if I do how could the unemployment office find out that I refused it?
Additional Details
To Michr:
$80 a week cheap for insurance/? Are freaking crazy???????? What planet are you from dude? This job would only pay 27,000 a year. That is around 4,000 a year, that would come out to be 21,000 a year, not including taxes and everything else. Plus, rent, food, car, gas, car insurance.... are you nuts?
I would love to see where you live....

you could refuse and UI may not find out but...
if/when they do you will be charged for all the over-payments, you can be fined and barred from any benefits for 3 years. UI fraud is prosecuted and they have tip lines to help prevent abuse.
failure to accept reasonable employment is grounds for the loss of benefits retroactive to the date the employment was refused.
you can work and make a small amount before you lose any benefits depending on your benefit amount so you may be able to work and still draw partial benefits. if the job does not work out your benefits will go back up to the full weekly amount.

the fact that the pay is less is taken into account if it is SIGNIFICANT which is usually based on a percentage not a dollar amount. $6000.00 dollars a year, month or week less?
$80.00 a week for insurance would be considered cheap by many, insurance or any benefits are not a requirement and are not a factor in determining qualifying.

Will I lose my unemployment if I refuse this job?
possibly, the only way to know for sure is refuse it and see if you get caught. you could ask for an opinion from the unemployment office and hope they don't catch on.

i guess Michr lives on the same planet as the other 50 million uninsured citizens of the US who would love to be able to get insurance for that price.

Only if you get caught then its unemployment fraud......you would have to pay it back and perhaps a fine and some parole time......if you get caught. You would have to lie on your bi weekly application.

By the way $80 bucks is cheap........sorry.........that's life working for a small company........you could always buy it on your own.......1K a month.......that sound better?........I'm in Michigan by the way....

No, I've on ucc for a couple of months not in NY but PA. First good luck in the job search. But no if ucc finds out you will not get decline benifits. Now here is something to help out. I had to get a pt job, and I can collect for my full salary minus my pt pay.But I was able to get medical.
So Good Luck with the search and hang in there!
