a background check without fingerprints only shows state convictions

Any reputable background check will show all convictions, state and federal. Usually the use of fingerprints will check databases for registered offenders, and those people who are "in the system". This could be because of a previous job where you were bonded (to handle money on behalf of a company), security clearances, or other reasons as well as criminal checks.

Of course.

Yes, The purpose of running the finger print and back ground check is to check for convictions whether misdemeanors of felonies.

I don't know that the fingerprints makes any difference - it just depends on where they check . . .

You can ask what is covered in the background check.

Not really. I have never been convicted of any crime, not even had a speeding ticket. My fingerprints are on file however, because I was in the service.
