Will a misdemeanor from 13 years ago effect my chances of becoming a teacher's aide?

Depends upon the state. If you were arrested and convicted and the charges were eventually dropped, it will still show up on your Federal background check. It also depends on the misdemeanor if it was a traffic violation more than likely they would over look it, but if its anything else like public drunkness, simple battery, domestic abuse, simple possession of marijuana or a first offense D.W.I. well that stays on the FBI record indefinitely. I just went through it when getting my pharmacy tech. license in LA. My misdemeanor was null prosse (charges dropped no conviction and expunged) over 17 yrs ago and it showed up on the FBI check. I was in shock, I thought it was gone since the statute of limitations rain out 7 yrs after the offense. No such luck on that one. Its best answer the question honestly and explain as much as possible, also if was expunged make sure you get back up documentation stating that you have served your time and it was expunged.

It would depend on what the misdemeanor was and if you were a minor when it happened.

If you were a minor your files are sealed and there is no way they can get them.

But most likely it won't affect your being a teachers aide.

Just Gone
probably not.

if its been 13 years you can get a pardon, then it won't effect your chances at all

Getting a speeing ticket would be considered a misdemeanor. If you don't see it while doing a back-ground check on yourself, then neither will the school.

... from 13 year ago, it's probably off all your records by now.
