Will my salary be protected?
|
i am currently employed by an orginisation and earn £36k p.a, i am considering doing a degree and hope to join my company's graduate scheme, however the starting salary is 24k. In this case would my employer honour the salary that i'd be earning as an exsisting employee or could they ask me to resign and re-employ me at the lower rate?

Up to the employer. Everyone varies and I would sit down with them and discuss (briefly) your "potential" plans and see what they may offer. Some companies may even help you pay for it. So all considered, even if you pay gets cut a bit, they may have made it the $$$ in tutition and fees. Good luck. |

Surely yu would be resigning your position to take up a new one on the graduate scheme where the salary is £24K. They don't have to ask you to resign as you are applying for a new post anyway. |

If a company gives you lower duties they have to maintain your pay.
Because you are voluntarily seeking a new position they can make you earn the lower pay.
But I am confused (my normal state really). People will pay 20,000 a year to study, but if someone offers a low salary to train them (which is what graduate and intern schemes are about) then they will say no. Crazy crazy crazy.
Ummm.......negotiate with them regarding salary and duties. You may be better off applying for specific positions that joining a graduate scheme. |

While it depends on the company it also depends on the job. If you'll be staying in the exact same position then it's likely they'll respect your salary. On the other hand, if you're this "graduate scheme" means you'll be transferred to a different position then there's no guarantee that you're salary will be honored because you'll be doing a different job. Your time with the company will likely be a factor so while you wouldn't necessarily earn what you did before, you shouldn't be started at the entry level salary either. |
