Work Friday night to Monday morning. No breaks. Is this legal?
Find answers to your legal question.

Work Friday night to Monday morning. No breaks. Is this legal?

I have a friend who works as a medical assistant at an occupational medicine facility. Shegoes in at 5 pm on Friday and leaves at 8 am on Monday morning. (Supposedly a salaried position, however she took off 5 hours recently and they docked her.) Anyway, the facility allows a thirty minute break every day BUT there is such a major ordeal about forwarding the phones and contacting the other facilities and the provider on call that its kinda pointless. The facility provides a futon in the break room, a fridge, a microwave. No Shower!! Is it legal in the state of georgia to have someone working that long?
Additional Details
I know for a fact that she is there from Friday at 5 until Monday at 5 am. I spend time with ehr while she is up there. I guess allowing friends to hang out is their way of making the long shift okay? I don't know, but I read her offer letter too last night after I posted this and it states that she is salaried at 28,080 a year However, she showed me her pay check stub and it clearly states that her pay rate is 13.49 an hour. It WAS also docked. I figured it was illegal. I just don't know the laws so thats why I was asking you guys. Neither she nor I will report this right now because she needs the money, I was just asking.

1. there are NO federal laws that mandate ANY breaks or limits the number of hours an employee works EXCEPT for child labor, transportation, and a limited number of hazardous positions such as mining.........

2. Georgia does NOT have a limit on the number of worked hours in a day or a week and does NOT mandate any breaks for adults.

3. You are probably mistaken about what is required of your friend, NO facility would schedule one person to work as you have described.

4. being paid on salary does NOT mean an employee can not have their salary reduced if they work less then 40 hours in a week. your friend is being paid a salary but is obviously NOT exempt so wages may be reduced BUT overtime is paid as well.

if your friend is EXEMPT then this practice of deducting the 5 hours would be a violation.

so
YES in Georgia it is legal to have someone working that long........

I think your friend is either joking with you or you are misunderstanding her.
No medical facility would put somebody on even a 24-hours shift.
Perhaps she simply meant that she was working all weekend (separate shifts).
If you are convinced she really is working all weekend, she (not you) should contact the authorities.
If she decides not to go home between shifts, but simply stay at the facility, that is her decision.
Making a report that is in any way inaccurate could cost her the job

no there are federal labor laws in place that gives a 10 min break every 2 and a half hours and a 30 min lunch per 8 hour period.. if they are a salary employee they couldnt dock her for 5 hours because they are not being payed for the hourly wage so i have to say unless they signed a waver that is illegal.
