What insurance plans, retirement plands etc. can you get on being a lawyer?? ( i have a classs project)

In the US lawyers do not get any special work benefits. Like other employees, a lawyer will be provided with the options for insurance / retirement that the employer gives other employees. In general, with the rise of health care costs and the poor economy, employers rarely pay all the insurance premiums for all employees. So, the lawyer, like every other employee, will weigh his/her options of what insurance to take -- because much of the insurance premium cost will come out of the lawyer's paycheck. There are some jobs and some employers who do provide free insurance for employees but those jobs are rare.
As for retirement plans, many of them have been replaced with what is called a 401k program where the employee puts in 'before tax' money to be used when the employee retires. Some of the major law firms and the government still have actual retirement plans for employees, including lawyers. For those of us in solo or small firms the only retirement plan is our own investments or IRAs. Again with this poor economy, many of us who are solos cannot afford to retire - ever.
