I was just offered a job position to work full time up to 56 hours. But the thing is that it is 7 days a week. The job is very tempting, but working 7 days a week might burn me out after a while. Someone telling me that it is illegal to work 7 days a week like that. Is this true, and you think it is worth it? I will make close to $23,000 a year. Sounds a lot better then my current job, but I know its not really a fabulous amount. But the money I could use.

without knowing what state you will be working in it is not possible to give a definitive answer.
there are no limits to the number of hours or days worked for "most" jobs under federal law but............
some states do require one day off in seven for those 18 or older
and almost all states have laws limiting the number of hours and days worked by those under 18. |

There are several jobs that require you to work for extended periods of time, like working on an oil rig. But for 56 hours a week you should be making a lot more than $23,000. Since you will be working 16 hours a week over time you should be being paid for 64 hours a week total. At even $10 hours an hour you should be making at least $30,000 a year. For $23,000 you are not making minimum wage in most states. |
