Workplace question.....?

Im white, and I have an African-American co-worker. She made a comment that was derogitory towards white people to another co-worker of ours. This is racism correct? Should I report it to my boss?

Did you hear the remark, or did you hear about it second hand? If you actually heard the remark you need to first explain to the co-worker that her remark bothered you and that you would appreciate it if she would not voice such comments in the work place.
If she continues, then report her comments to your boss.
If you didn't actually hear the remark. Let it go. |

i would confront the person that made the remark first, that way you have your bases covered when and if you decide togo to HR.
the sad thing is that blacks can say whatever they want but if white people say things regarding blacks everyone gets their panties in a bunch.
so, in a nutshell, let the person know that you did not appreciate the comment and wait for an apology. if you don't get any apology then march your butt into HR and let them know.... by law they have to address it, if they don't go to the individual that handles Ethics Policies :) |

That depends on how much it bothered you. Did it really offend you or are you just looking for an excuse to try and get her in trouble. If it bothered you, but you think that she is basically a good person, try talking to her calmly about it, especially if this was the first time. If this has happened many times and keeps happening despite requests to stop, you need to report it. It also depends on your workplace environment. Some places are very laid back and people can joke about anything, other places not so much. |

Yes, this is racism, and yes it should be reported. Racism goes both ways and should not be tolerated in the work place! |

Yes it is racism.
At work you are not suppose to make any racial gestures even if it is not ment to affend anyone. It is not right.
if you feel you need to report it then you do so. Becasue they can get into trouble with that. But if it affended you and you feel the need to tell your boss then do what you got to do.
I know how it is I go to a trade school and I hear racial comments all the time. But I am use to it by now.
BUT DO WHAT YOU FEEL U NEED 2 DO |

You have not been watching the news. Racism is for white people only, but what you need to do is make written record of who, what was said, when, and where, also who else was there. |
