I am looking for a full time job now. I am letting employers know in the interview that I have a preplanned family vacation scheduled for the full third week of May. Will I have trouble getting that time off even if I tell them upfront? Will this prevent me from getting a call back? What should I do? I really can't reschedule.

This is an item with which many employers will be flexible, as long as it is something of which they are notified and agree prior to hiring. Rather than bringing it up in your initial interview, however, I suggest you wait until the company has made a job offer (but before you actually accept the job). At that point, they have decided they want to hire you and the time off will likely be seen as little or no problem. |

This is a very common situation. You may want to mention that you do not expect to get paid for the week, or ask about the possibility of going negative on vacation hours if you can't afford to go without pay. The employer commonly calls this out in the job offer letter, i.e. "Company ABC agrees that you will be entitled to take one week (with/without pay) during May xx - xx for your preplanned vacation."
Easy, and we'd rather know up front than have you surprise us post-hire. :) |

It will depend upon the employer. If that's a bad time for the employer -- it might prevent your employment with a particular company.
However, being upfront is the way to go -- we have hired folks who had pre-planned vacations and simply worked around their schedule. |

Depends on how bad they want you.......up front is a good way to go......but if your really want the job.......off the vacation and go back to work.........a ton of people are out of work and would do anything for a job...........If you can't or won't reschedule....thats up to you.......how bad do you want work... |
