Yes, he can let you go under some pretense.
Simply because he knows you will most likely leave.
Especially if he is not crazy about your performance anyway.
It is best for all concerned to keep a job search quiet.
Besides the interviewer at the job applied might call him anyway to see why you are leaving. |

that would depend on your terms of employment. If you have an "at will" employment status then you can be fired or quit for a reason or no reason at all. So yes they can fire you in that case. If you had a contract or something else then it would be different. |

No, under what grounds would he fire you. Everyone has the right to look for another job without being punished. |

Not as long as you were performing well in the job you currently have. However, it might not do you any favors if you are looking to get promoted, get a big raise, etc. since the theory will be that you're a "flight risk" |

No he wouldn't but he might fire you on some trumped up charge to get even with you. Bosses have many ways to get rid of employees and keep their self covered. It's not fair but it goes on every day. |

No grounds to fire you unless you are caught looking for jobs during the work day or spending to much time on Yahoo answers during the work day. Otherwise you can be fired for just interviewing unless it causes you to have an attendance problem or some other issue with your productivity |
