I have worked for this company for over 15yrs and 2 days ago i was called in by manager for him to tell me that i was loosing my postion and effective immediately. A few months ago i was told by manager that i needed to speed up and make things look better and nothing else had been said to me until the other day. I feel i was done wrong and not really given a chance to correct any mistakes or problems that i may have caused and from what was said in the meeting with my manager everything was already in process and there was nothing i could do about it. So my question is can you be stripped of your job and job title "because you took to long to do your job"?

in the US you can be terminated with cause for poor performance
write-ups and counseling are not a requirement of law but are a smart way for employers to help employees improve their performance. you were told a couple of months ago you needed to improve your performance, sorry to say it but obviously you didn't do it. |

The legal answer is: If you are in the US, and working in a "work-at-will" job, you can leave a job for any reason or no reason at all, and your company can let you go for the same.
Exceptions to this are if you are under contract or part of a union. If this is the case, look at your agreement or contract.
It may be true that it wasn't nice or an act of loyalty, but it is likely that it's not illegal. |

Unfortunately it is all too common for this to happen and managers are not required to help you by giving you pointers or a certain amount of time to make corrective actions.
When you receive your record of employment, note what they indicated under reason for leaving. If they have written "terminated," they usually have to indicate the reason.
Unless you had a union, it is unlikely that you can do anything about this, but you can always contact your ministry of labour if you have any concerns about receiving employment insurance, your final pay, vacation pay, severance pay, etc. They will be able to tell you what you are entitled to receive and help you ensure that you get it.
