Avoid interviewing with large scale operators like chain and franchise stores. These employers will often perform background checks as standard operating procedure. Try and target small single storefront employers that are less likely to perform background checks, a local restaurant or diner for example. Also, if you are on probation, check with your probation officer for employers. They sometimes are aware of employers that will hire persons with an arrest record.

That is really a hard situation you are in, but unfortunately, you put yourself there. In these hard economic times, there are barely any jobs out there to begin with, and the ones that are out there are going to take the non law-breakers first.

Once a person do something illegal you might as well get your own business because employers label you as criminal. It's ok for politician to get in trouble who are running our country/city. They get a pat on the back and they have six figure jobs and they trust them. I paid almost $2,000 to get my record expunged and it didn't benefit me any. Now it's about your credit to get a job which is ridiculous. If your credit is bad and you have a criminal conviction get your own business

Well unfortunately, you basically signaled yourself out. Background check are more popular than ever and drug free workplaces are even more popular.

Finding a job with your background is going to be rough but that is the price you pay when you do things that are illegal.

half the people at walmart im sure have had possesion charges.... and I know people who work at walmart who are felons. having weed on you isnt really a big deal. there is a hiring freeze pretty much everywhere... odds are its going to be hard for you to find a job.

You'll have to look around for something that doesn't do background checks. Perhaps construction, a laundromat night attendant etc. You should never ask at an interview if they do background checks though :)

First off, hun take this as a Lesson learned and DONT be around it anymore, You screwed up and at least you are young and even though yes its going to go on your record a few years down the road as long as you can prove you have not touched the stuff since then you can land jobs in many many feilds. RIGHT NOW THOUGH, its fresh its new and its going to be very hard EXPESSIALY since we are in a time of a recession and not many busninesses are hiring and those that are are getting slammed with 100 applications a day and are going to hire the best of the best.
SO here is what you need to do
First off no matter where you apply at be upfront and honest( If you need to mention it during the interview ( ONLY IF NEEDED, and then make sure you let them know that you are clean and have learned your lesson, tell them you dont mind doing drug tests)
SECOND
Look at all jobs, you have Mcdonalds,taco bell, Grocery Stores, Stores in the Malls, Fast foods, Pizza delivory, Telemarketing, ect ect
also now that you are 19 and have gotten in trouble it is time for you to grow up.. start looking at some online colleges as well as you. that way after you work at your " I NEED TO FIX MY SCREW UP" job, you go to school work your Butt off, try to get promoted or what ever you need to do. then in a a year or two get back to that Job hunting and go for bettter jobs..
You can do it as long as you put your mind to it and learn from your mistakes.

It dosent matter if they do background checks. They most likely will hire you if it wasnt a fellon... even if it was, they probably will still hire you unless it was for theft. So dont be scared if they BG check. Also, stay clean, showing that you are clean now will improve your changes. Expecially if your strapped for cash, it shouldnt be too hard. Apply everywhere.

Every employer does a background check and a drug test any more so the only thing you realy can do is get an under the table job. Thats one that you get paid cash and no taxes are taken out kinda like you don't work their but you really do.
