I'm straight and in a loving relationship with my significant other. However, one of my close friends confessed to me that they are DEEPLY in love with me and its only gotten stronger throught the years. We've known each other for years, but were never close. Just recently we started to bond more and became better close friends. I do not want nor never will be with this person....
What should I do now?

Tell them that it just isnt going to work. Be honest, be blunt, do your best to not let this ruin the friendship. It seems fantasy has turned into infatuation, this cannot be healthy if it is let to go on any longer. |

Be gracious and do not hurt this person. If they can maintain a platonic, but deep and meaningful relationship with you, then you must nurture that. Not that it matters, but is this close friend of yours a guy as well. You mention you are in a straight relationship, not sure if that confuses you more or less. I know if one of my guy friends confessed this me, I would truly be shocked! I am not that great of dresser or a dancer.
I think you must confess the truth about your feelings to this close friend and your true intentions of where your new found friendship is headed. If the friend persists and pushes the envelope on your friendship, then you have choose between your loving relationship with the recently budding new friendship. |

Oh, that's unfortunate. You're going to hurt her and I'm sure you don't want to do that, but it's inevitable. Just be polite and straightforward. Say you're sorry, but you are not interested in more than her friendship and are committed to your current relationship. If she pulls away, give her some space. It's important to understand that her feelings for you are real and her sadness and heartbreak are real so she might need some time away from you to heal. |
