After a month of simmering over a prenup I just broke off my engagement. Any immediate advice?

TILL DEATH DUE US PART...is an idea that became an ideal, that became a Concept for Reality; it is a guideline for living. Now. A business that is up and running is a totally different thing from your marriage. A business is a business and all assets and liabilities belong inside that business; the owner and everyone else is paid a salary from the business. So, in some states, your marital spouse will own one-half of that salary you earned during the marriage as community property. The business itself should never be community property, just the salary coming from it. Always protect a business no matter if it is five houses or apartment building to a general store, etcetera. All salaries and investments earned prior to the nuptial should be held separate from the marriage as personal property. So what is a prenup for/ In some states the pre-marital personal assets and the business-up-in running is in danger of being dissolved if there is a divorce. It is just simply naive and immature to think that in our world today that the wedding and even the wedding vows means permanency. Therefore, separate your marital feeling from your business feelings, there may be employees with families counting on that business. You should not have to do all that work trying to see into the future because the laws should protect your assets. If you want to share some of your personal funds with the marriage that's your business but to take your personal funds from you because you got married to me is wrong. But to take funds out of that up & running business is a true travesty; it is wrong. THE SALARY THAT THE CEO EARNS IS THE ONLY MARITAL ASSET IN A COMPANY. (That's how I see it.)---MO

She didn't love you. She loved would you could do for her. Any romantic woman would willingly sign a prenup because she would want to assure you that her love was for real. I mean this woman had no need for your support and so she was really measuring her worth, not showing her love. She would of taken as much as she could of and the scary part is she thinks she would of deserved it.

I will only have a total prenuptial agreement. So awesome of you to stick to your guns. No matter how great she was it was about the money for her and if she says it about resepect...well you didn't respect the fact that she wanted your money.

Marriage is a legal partnership held in the highest legal regards.

I think what you are saying in your prenup request is that you want to keep that business you've previously established a separate matter from what you will be partners in the future during your marriage. But, maybe not everyone views a marriage as a business arrangement. And that's all it is if the love and caring for one another disappears.

Make a decision, right or wrong with this relationship - in or out. And whatever your decision is, don't look back because no one has the "correct" answer for you.

The no fault divorce has made divorcing a for profit business for women.

If she was marrying for love rather than profit she would have been happy to take advantage of the chance to prove it.

You know with 0bama taking over health care doctors won't be making 1/3 of what they have historically.
She needs something to secure he financial future,,,,,,, like 1/2 a business.

It's not about being selfish - it's about protecting yourself in case something happens. That's why people have wills, Power of Attorney, and so on.

You did right by sticking to your guns on this. If you guys were going to fight about assets before you were even married, I can't imagine what would have happened if you did. You guys would never have peace!

If you are protecting the business you started alone, she should have no problem signing a prenup. I happen to be working for someone at this time who, after an ugly divorce, dishonestly took over a business his ex-spouse started and is running it into the ground. Suggest you two talk with a counselor and maybe she'll come around.

If you think you need a prenup before you can marry someone then you probably shouldn't get married at all. You are either in it for life or you aren't. It isn't a marriage if you are planning the divorce before you even say "I do." Just my opinion. Of course that is why I waited until I was 31 till I got married. I wouldn't marry anyone that didn't feel the same way about marriage that I do and I wouldn't marry someone I thought it would end up in divorce with or that I feared would take advantage of me if we did get a divorce against my will.
