Am I being over considerate or controlling?

You are being very considerate. No, it does not sound that controlling (I've seen much worse) If you have explained why you want her to call you, and she is still not cooperating, just let it go. In the overall scheme of a relationship, this is not a big deal. There may be other ways for you to show how much you care. It's a shame she does not appreciate your concern for her, however.

I suggest you don't waste anymore precious time calling her. I guess when & if she has a problem, SHE'LL CALL YOU.

I have a feeling your 'tone' might be overbearing or you may be implying that your are trying to keep tabs on her rather than concern about her safety.
How do you think we all got along before cell phones?
She is a big girl and I'm sure she would call you if she needed you. You should try and relax. If she's a good driver you should have no worries.
The staying late and not calling would concern me though unless it's just for a short time, and happens frequently.

WITH your wife's consent, attach a gps tracking device to your car. And then you will know where the "car" is (and presumably her too) whenever you are worried. Let her know that if this device is attached, she won't have to "bother with" calling you when she is going to be late. Take care.

P.S. I expect my mother and best friend to let me know when they are home safe as well, and I return the favor. In these dangerous times, I think it is only courteous to do so, but your wife may not see it the same way.

I could see both sides. It's nice that you care about your wife enough to want to make sure she is okay and I think that's great of you. But to stay neutral and see her side, it may seem controlling. She could feel like you are checking up on her. Who knows. Talk to her about it. Communication WITH HER is the best way to solve it. =)

It could be looked upon as both. If I were you I'd change that to say you'll be calling if she's not home by a certain time, and let that be an agreed upon time by both of you. This is one of those things that can get kinda sticky.
