Am having child maintenance problems?

My ex pays me £800 a month for my child maintenance. He works for himself and last year did really well. Now due to the credit crunch he is moaning that he isn't earning half as much even though he is a plumber and everyone still needs that business lets face it. He has been messing me around with the money for the last few months. Thing is the year court order runs out in September and unfortunately he wants to go through the CSA. I don't want to go through them as I know that I would only get half of what I am getting now which would be a massive drop for me. He does plenty of cash jobs which no doubt he won't be putting it into his accounts. Just know that his money will look really poor in the accounts in September therefore I will only end up with about £200 a month if I am lucky. There is no way I can bring up 3 really young kids on that money. Any ideas? I have heard that I can maybe extend the court order but if he don't agree to it how can I? Could I take him to court and say that I can't cope on the new maintenance that he is giving me? Help needed please. By the way I do work as a childminder but the money is dreadful.

Have him do a financial discousure and tell the courts you want bank deposits looked at because you know he's working under the table. I'm not sure if they will do it or not.

I'm going through the same thing! I moved to CA from Utah and now the child support I was awarded in Utah is CRAP for CA.....but my ex is fighting it tooth and nail to have it re modified.....If he didn't take me to court all the time for his "rights" every time he got his panties in a bunch I would be fine with the child support but because he wants to try using my son to control me I think he needs to pay more child support.

You should be happy your getting something. I have been waiting for my child support for 2 years now. Here in the US the DA system is lousy and lets dead beat dads do what they want. My sons father has decided not to work and just get on welfare so now not only am I not getting my child support I now have to support him and his girlfriend on welfare. How about them apples.

I am raising a teenager who is going to be driving soon who needs insurance, needs driving courses which has to go through private school (which is mandatory by the state) and then he'll want a car. He also has to be on medication that cost $180.00 every 2 months. Teenagers cost just as much as little ones. Child support would help out tremendously especially since I got laid off of work in February. Work here is hard to find since our unemployment is 10.1%. So just remember it could be worse.
