Anyone else have to deal with a wife who has a thighroid problem?

It seems to be causing Irrational anger. No matter how I tiptoe around, or try to be comforting and understanding about her issue. She, at times flies off the handle and has even become physically violent. I don't know how much longer I can deal with it, and am at my wits end. I love her, but where do I draw the line? I'm against divorce, and will do my best to try to work through this issue, but right now, I'm at a loss. She doesn't seem to understand where I'm coming from, and if I try to tell her, she gets all defensive and is in denial that she has anger issues. It's pms x 1000

are you sure it's a thyroid problem? If she's been diagnosed then maybe the meds aren't working and she needs to be reevaluated by her doctor. it's also possible that it's also hormonal along with the thyroid problem. maybe you could go to the doctor with her and make sure these issues are brought to his/her attention or at least help her make a list of your concerns to discuss with the doctor.
she's a lucky woman that she's got a husband that cares enough to try and understand this problem instead of turning to another woman.

No but my husband has a thyroid problem and he gets that way if he don't take his thyroid pills. Your wife should go to the DR and get some, he takes synthroid and without them he is a miserable S.O.B. And he also will sleep a lot if he don't tke them. |

Yes my wife suffers from Graves disease. Which is hyperthyroidism. With a radioactive pill eveything is under control |

I know plenty of people with thyroid problems and have never encountered that kind of anger.
It sounds like she has more than just the thyroid problem. Was she always so angry and abusive?
You might try a psychologist for her and then some marriage counseling for both of you and see if that can help you.

I have thyroid disorder and I don't think those kind of actions have anything to do with the disorder...It's got to be something else...Does she take meds for it? Talk to the dr. next time she has her blood work done and I believe he will tell you that that has nothing to do with the thyroid... |

Mom had her thyroid taken out completely, takes medicine regularly, reports no side effects whatsoever, and have not noticed a change in behavior.
Former suitemate had thyroid problems since college at least, kept her gland though; took meds but they didn't seem to work very well. Had random days where she would just "crash", and sometimes just seemed very cold.
By all means, get your lady checked out, make sure she is getting the right meds ... perhaps, speak with a doctor about her issues? But it is possible that all the anger could be a separate problem. |
