and.....Am I required to be friends with my sibling's IN LAWS.
just went to my sister's wedding. met her new hubby's 6 sisters and bros. they SEEMED snobby and we had little to talk about. i can act civilzed but am i required to be friends with them and have meaningful relationships now that we are family?

They are not your in-laws. However, you will very likely see these people for the rest of your life at birthdays, baptisms, graduation parties, etc. You don't have to be instantly friendly with all 6 of them, but I'm sure one of them is nice. Start developing a rapport with that person as you see him or her over the next 30 years.
The thing is...sometimes people can seem snobby or standoffish because they actually are shy and are in a social setting where they are meeting a lot of new people. Over time, they will probably relax around you and you will find common interests. You might discover that some of them are actually nice people.
Again...you aren't expected to be their best friend. But you should make the most of seeing them at family events for the rest of your life. It will make going to these family events more tolerable for you. |
