Ok, I know this is not a legal term, however what usually happens legally (if possible) when a man is in this position - thousands of dollars in debt, cant get a job now because of garnishes,judgments etc... I will not go into details how this came about (if you would like more detail, email me) however there MUST be some legal ramifications for this. The term "grooming" comes to mind to explain my attitude of apathy in the marriage. Most of her respect is gone, again, too much detail for the question. For you women out there, I believe this is synonymous with a "womanizer" (I think that is the male term for one who does things to get your money, then when your in poverty, they treat you like crap, or just "go through the motions" of "loving" you.
Now do not get me wrong, we get along, there is not abuse like that at all, but i guess that in itself is mental abuse to me, since it is sort of misleading, being nice when she wants something, then gone all day or all night or both, when I'm not needed. When we do have fights, its firece and verbal on her part (almost spitting) - I think she is like that because I am right with what I've done for her, and she cannot say the same.
Are there legal steps against this kind of behavior? I am now more concerned than ever in this finacial situation now - I am not really concerned about the marriage anymore.

about a year into the marriage she let on that she was/is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict (pain meds - even stole mine twice while i was recovering from 2 recent surguries - yes she goes to AA but I dont think it helps). she became more bold with this info exponentially when she realized i was being "understanding" - what else was i supposed to do?

I still love her, she has issues, so I dont harvest the hatred you all are displaying - I blame myself for being dumb - she is so nice (arent they all) that at the time it was hard to say no to a lot of things, now its easy, but its too late and doesn't matter, so am trying to put my life back together. But many things interfere financially that prevents that.

The only thing you could probably do, as has been suggested here already, is get rid of her, she can't be screaming for money of there isn't any! She has bled you dry and before he drops you into more debt I would be getting rid, if she kicks off, remind her that although assets are usually split when a marriage break down, debts are often split too ....watch her run as fast as her drunken, drugged out little legs will carry her!

You're worried about legal recourse?!? Bugga the cost financially mate, I'd get the hell out of that now! It's not about loving her or not, it's about your own self respect. Are you gunna put money before love? Because her selfish behavior you describe here ain't love. And waiting around on the receiving end of that on account of money is still putting money first. Sure, go see a lawyer. Don't be silly and fail to protect yourself financially, but firstly protect yourself emotionally.
If you don't believe in divorce or getting out then accept that the cost is not just the money but your heart. If you think you should make that kind of sacrifice, that's up to your conscience. But then the money is still the last cost to worry about. Finally, letting yourself get used up isn't you being loving. It's cowardice in the face of living life alone. Show some balls. Make a decision one way or the other and STICK to it come hell or high water! Stuff the money! No whinging and no regrets!! |

Your best bet would be to have a free consultation with an attorney where you can explain this to him/her in detail. Things vary from State to State. If you are planning on divorcing, you may be able to come out ahead with proper documentation. |
