Arranged marriages, what is you honest opinion on them?

I have friends that had an arranged marriage. They are originally from India. Her parents had picked out 5 or 6 different men. She dated some of them, and if she didn't like them, her parents said fine and went on to their next choice. She was never forced to marry someone she didn't want. When she found the one, they dated for 2 years, and she was more than happy to marry him. We met them on their honeymoon 9 years ago, and they are still happily married.

Of course if it was mandatory they remain together the divorce rate would go down. I personally don't see a problem with it because that is an aspect of another culture. What they choose to do is their business. What we do here in the US is ours.

Unfortunately,we are living in a free world where people are free to decide for themselves. So the idea of arranged marriage is barbaric

No one should want an arranged marriage! Think about love! If you have one you might meet someone later on that you know you truly love.

I don't know, it works for some, only because their is pressure from the families of both sides for them to stay together. I have heard of couples in arranged marriages where they have nothing in common except for their kids. I think that this is a sad arrangement. Marry for love.

Maybe so but people would be so unhappy. I believe it would tarnish the quality of life. How could you be happy married to someone you don't love? And how could you live a happy life without love?

I think you should be able to marry whom ever you want because you LOVE them. I know if i was stuck in a marrage where i didn't love the guy but couldn't get a divorce to find someone else, i'd probably shoot myself. Honest opinion.

If America is "full of nuts", why are you so interested in learning how we feel about your ideas of marriage? If I wanted an opinion, I wouldn't ask people that I believe are "nuts". That would question my own intelligence now, wouldn't it?
