To be honest I do use the dishwasher most of the times but when I don't, I find it easier to wash after I use the dishes, my hubby takes turns with me as well which also helps a lot. You need to find a method that works for you and for/with your family otherwise it will drive you nuts. Good luck! |

Use the same cup all day long. Just rinse it out and use it again the next day. My husband and I do that. |

Throw them away... How many people live in your house? If there's 4 keep only 6 plates...(2 extra just in case).....4 spoons, 4 forks, etc... That way you have your own plates, and if they get dirty you wash them quickly and don't leave it in the sink and get a clean one each time... Trust me, it works! |

The rule was, "You help dirty the dishes, you help wash them." And I refered to them as my "3 dishwashers" that did a good job when it came time to wash those dishes. |

Haha me too.
The main way I get through it is I make my boyfriend do the dishes on the weekend. I still pretty much have to do it every day during the week. We also try to re-use cups by rinsing them after using them, since most of the time we only drink water anyway. Another way can be leaving a bit of water in the sink and encouraging your family to clean as they finish with their dishes and stack them to dry straight away. I also think its important not to let it build up, sometimes I get annoyed and dont do the dishes for several days and then we just end up with a huge pile that feels huge. So I just like to make sure I keep on top of it, doing it atleast once a day, its much quicker that way. |

I don't have a dishwasher so after every meal I rinse off the dishes real quick. Any pots and pans I fill with water and let them soak and clean them at the end of the day. So when I actually get to washing the dishes it doesn't take as long. |

I give everyone their own colour plates, cups & bowls & that way I know who has left their dish not rinsed or even taken from where they ate to the sink. We have a rule you use it you rinse it & we take turns filling the dishwasher. |

Well there's always tv trays and just plop the food on there and eat with your hands. You can also just leave the plates down and let the cats or a dog clean the plates...lol |

At my house we use the same glass all day long. If you want something different to drink rinse it out. Also, during meals, run a sink full of dishwater and make people wash their own plates, utensils....etc. when they are done. It makes it so much easier. Ofcourse, you can't make a small child wash their own dish, so you will still be stuck doing that. I honestly don't belive you can save water and energy using a dishwasher either. They use way more water than washing by hand. |

Use the same glass/cup just rinse out each time you use, same goes for any children as they make a lot of dishes, my two teens have been away this week and I've noticed I have way less dishes to do. You could get a dishwasher but they do use more water. |

I always keep plastic utensils and plates and cups around. But, what i also do is, make sure that if they drink or eat out of anything, they clean it off and put it in the rack. so they use they same set all day. it took them a while to get it and stick to it, but it really works now. So, when my daughter does the night dishes, she only has what I used to cook and the dishes that they have used since they came home from school. Now on the weekend, thats a whole nother story. I use the paper plates, plastic cups and utensils. Which isnt a lot since we're rarely home on the weekends. I am a housewife too, since July of this year. Its really new to me. I have worked since the age of 15 and being at home, I had to realize that the way I take care of the house is different. Now its all I do, instead of going to work and coming home and making an excuse to leave the clean up to later, now I have no excuse. unless i am sick or something. So my wifey duties are what keeps me going. I found it hard in the beginning, but now i have my own little groove and then find mommy time til the kids and hubby get home from school and work. Also, sometimes I cheat and allow my daughter to use the dishwasher. |

I wouldn't dream of going paper or plastic. We just wash our dishes as we go along, and don't let them pile up. I've never thought of it being that bad. When I was a kid and I had to do dishes, I would pretend I was on a TV show called Beat the Clock, and I had to finish by a certain time. That made it more fun. Now I have a wonderful kitchen window with a tree full of bird feeders. So I am entertained while I cook and wash dishes. I also like to pray while I'm working in the kitchen. I think of names of people who are sick or shut in and offer prayers for them, and also a prayer of thanksgiving that I am able to stand in my kitchen and cook and wash up afterward. |

I had an argument with my 13 year old daughter today over doing dishes. She doesn't want to do it the one or two times a week that she's asked to. Most of them will be going into the dishwasher but she wants everyone to wash their own dishes after they use them. You could give that a try and/or get a dishwasher if you don't already have one. |

I made a rule with me and my boyfriend, and that's that we only use one cup a day. I mean think about it: everytime you get thirsty, you grab a cup, drink out of it for 30 seconds, then toss it into the sink. We established a place to put our daily cup and it works out fine. And at the end of the day there isn't 20 cups to wash.
Also, if I've just done the dishes and he comes home from work and we eat, I just rinse off and scrub down our two plates right as we put them in the sink and then toss them into the dish drainer. SO then it's just silverware and our two daily cups.
I hope it helps. I feel your pain! |

There is nothing wrong with paper plates etc when your busy or if its just the immediate family. However dishes are just part of the cooking routine. Make a deal, if you cook someone else cleans. |

I do the dishes as I cook so the clean up after dinner is not bad. Then after dinner I do he dishes right away. It really isn't too much to keep up on. Do you have a dishwasher? |

Rid your cabinet of all the dishes except for one for each person in the house. Make them use the same dish- glass, fork, spoon, plate and bowl all day each day. That way if they want a clean dish they have to wash it for the next meal. They don't clean their dish, they eat off it dirty.
My mom once had to do this and it was pretty effective.
On the flipside, my husband bought me a dishwasher, maybe your's will too? When I was very 8 months preggo with our now 7 yr old I was working 10-12 hours a day and it was killing me to stand even longer into the evening at the sink doing dishes after standing all day at work, then at home too cooking. He went out and bought a dishwasher for me. Now since the family has grown more, I make them put their dishes in the dishwasher after dinner. Lightens the load for me. |

don't use serving utensils, eat out of the pans. use your fingers more. make things that don't reqire knives and spoons. my hubby and i use the same plate and fork/spoon when we eat. you can eat yogurt out of the carton by licking fingers. you can pick up a burger. and hold it over the pan you cooked it in. get creative. i find that by thinking things through carefully i can really reduce the dishes i use cooking and eating. |

Carefully box up some of the dishes. Make sure there is enough for everyone plus just one or two. Literally wash everything as soon as it is used or commit to running the dishwasher more often if you don't wash by hand. I'd wash everything as soon as it hits the sink and then you're never overwhelmed by the volume of a lot of stuff. |
