Child support (repeat question)?

Ok, should I ask for Child support from my ex.. ? We have only been split up for three week, and I had told him if we ever did split up, I would not ask him for child support as long as he helps me out.. Well, I have'nt gotten anything yet. I told him to pay for my cell phone bill and insurance since I would be spending about the same amount anyways and he would still get out cheaper, so it only seems reasonable to pay for that and possibly anything extra for her that i cant come up with, but he is now telling me to pay for it.I never wanted to go threw a custody battle, and I damn sure cant afford a lawyer. I am a single mom trying to go back to school, and instead of going back to school it is kinda looking like I will need two jobs

Ive been paying for everything myself for my daughter, besides her insurance, but yes, I was going to try and get a grant as a single mother to go back to school. I dont want to tell my daughter to go to college when I never did

and no, my cell phone bill doesnt mean more to me than my daughter. It was just so I could figure out a way for him to pay up, and pay up because id have to spend that money reguardless but I just didnt want to have to go thru the system to get my money.

Honey, you need to get a support enforcement order. I know because I tried this with my ex. He made one payment to me two weeks after the split. It was about 1/2 of what we had agreed upon. 7 years later, he has still not paid a dime of child support. If you had told me when we were together that he would be a dead beat, I would have laughed in your face. He was a very attentive father...

Anyway, my experience aside. You do not want to be arguing with him in the future about what your daughter needs, or what you choose to spend your money on. It does not have to be a battle. You fill out the paper work. Child support enforcement and the court figures out each of your financial responsibility to the child, you work up a parenting plan. You only have to go to court if he decides to fight it, and even then, you don't need to have a lawyer, the state will be representing your child best interest. Her best interest is you, and having adequate financial support.

Trust me, you will be able to put this issue to rest more quickly if you just legalize it. It will drag out for years with the plan you are trying, and you will end up in court anyway.

i think you should ask for something. he had a baby girl with you and doesn't want to help support it? that would classify him as a scumbag in most people's book.

First off...when you ask for money from him, never ever, ever ask for money to pay for any of your personal expenses....I know where you are coming from, The money he pays will help you to support your daughter so that you can afford a normal lifestyle (which includes a cell phone).

I'm a single mom and have put up with the crap for years. He may be more inclined to pay if you just tell him you need the money for baby clothes, baby food, to help you pay for her health insurance, etc.

If not, than sweetie, march youself down to your local district court and file a petition for child support. You don't need a lawyer, they will appoint you one to advise and assist you.

Take your ex to court and request child support. It doesn't matter what you told him previously. He's not holding up his part of the bargain and you need him. Now.

if he is not gonna help you with her needs then yes put him on child support. you don't need a lawyer to do that but not sure what state your in. just go to the attorney generals office and fill out an application

According to what state you live in you can go to google child support worksheet for whatever state. Fill out the form and it will give you a pretty good idea how much he should be paying you.

After you do that take it to him and say this is what you should be paying, but all i'm asking for is......

But if that doesn't work you will have to call whoever handles child support claims in your state.
