It depends on the religious denomination. Catholic priests obviously can't get divorced but Anglican / CofE priests can, re-marry and still be priests.
Generally, getting divorced is not something positively regarded in any Christian denomination though, as a marriage is supposed to be a life long commitment. |

I disagree with Amy. Evangelicals are Christians and they believe divorce is acceptable under certain conditions. Abuse and/or adultery.
It is in the Bible. |

I am a Christian and according the Bible divorce is only accepted in the case of infidelity and if one spouse is bringing the other down spiritually.
Catholics try to have an annulment rather than divorce. I know several Catholic couples that had a marriage annulled even after they had kids(obviously the marriage had been consummated). So I don't think the rules are that strict.
Bottom line is that we have these beliefs but we also know that if we pray about things and feel that is our only option we can pray for forgiveness. |

well, according to my best friend from when i was 12 years old, (his catholic church) it's wrong to divorce but it's okay for priests to fondle 12 year old boy's private area. and later on when the kid learns that that's wrong, it's too late, shameful and hassle some to file any charges. |

I am a roman catholic. You cannot get divorced in the eyes of god once you have taken the sacrament of marriage. Legally yes but you will never be divorced through the eyes of god. Thats why divorcees married in church can never get remarried in the church. |

Fundamentalist Christians have the highest divorce rate of any religious group (34%). What they say they believe and what they do are really different. I hope you can work that into your essay. Atheists divorce at a much lower rate (21%).
