Confused about When to get married?

My fiance and I have been engaged for almost 2 years and dating much longer. We are still young, I am 19 and he is 21. We live on our own now, but always planned a long engagement.
I always wanted to have a decent wedding with friends and family and a lovely dress, so we planned on waiting a couple years until we could afford a better celebration.
I am in Nursing School, and he is in his 2nd year of law school. Now our parents are saying we should get married sooner for the financial aid benefits (because we both get minimal to no aid as dependents). However, doing this now would mean practically eloping.
We love eachother completely, and have no doubt we will marry, but I don't know whether to wait or do it now. Are there affordable ways to have nice weddings?.. very affordable?
Any insight is helpful.

Just go to the court and have it done and later have a reception! No big deal! When things get better fincialy you can renew your vows in a grand way! |

Getting married isn't about profit! You should marry when you are both ready, not a moment before. I think it's great that you are so in love and want to make a commitment but you are both so young! If it were me I would wait, your wedding day is important and if you rush into it just to qualify for financial aid you'll regret it, it won't be the wedding you always wanted and it certainly won't be quite so romantic! Tell your parents that you'll marry when you are ready and you're not prepared to rush into it just to get some benefit. Finish school, get good jobs, build a home together, save some money and then have the wedding of your dreams, be it big or small, at least it will be the wedding you want. |
