Did I make a mistake? is this how is going to be all my life?

I have been dating this guy for over 5 month now, everything seams to be good, I am nurse he is a lawyer, we seam to get along pretty well I like him fine he is funny, great in bed :) I admit that is very important to me but he never pays for dinner, or for trips he always finds a way to trek me into paying half all the time.. even for the rent he says if I would help him with half he''ll find a place for us..all my girlfriends have their guys pay for everything...what should I do...I like him in bed but I wish he would treat me once in a while..at least dinner ...is not that I need his money do ok on my own, is just I feel that somehow he is holding the power in our relationship and that drives me crazy...

Can the previous respondents not read? She is saying that he gets her to pay half, not everything. Nothing is wrong with that. It isn't his job to support you if he doesn't want to. Of course, the guy paying it all is more traditional, but many people prefer to go the modern route and half everything. If you have the money what is the problem? Maybe you just want to be in a really old-fashioned relationship, and that is okay too.

He isn't holding all the power. Financially, you are holding half of it as long as you halve bills. Him holding all the power would be if you WERE completely financially dependent on him!

It's a bit hard to tell and it might come off as he's using you and stuff, but if you really want to know, talk to him.. communication is the key and if you find out worse that way you ended it before it got any further, if it turns out the opposite then I hope for the best!

IMO he should be paying once in a while, and so should you, so when it all averages, both should pay the same over time.

You can try paying 100% of the expenses yourself sometimes (for example when you go out to a dinner), do it a few times and see if he will then do the same, to test him.

If he sees you pay the entire bill several times and yet he does not do that at any time... then there is a problem.

It might be that he is a miser; but then, it might be that he was simply burned by having a relationship in the past with a gold digger (and if he's a lawyer or any highly paid profession, that's a possibility) and now he's always in self-defense mode.

I'd say he's been takin for money before so relax. Its been a whoppin 5 months how well can you REALLY know a person in that amount of time. Tell him you feel you've proved your point and go dutch. Even on the rent for that matter.

Buy him a present here and there and then ask what do you get for me. If he brings up you want his money then tell him you want his trust and obviously thats where its at.
