I'm not an army wife....but I am an Air Force one...and I'm also in the AF myself....so I'm kinda qualified to answer this question :)
I have met some happily married young couples on the various bases I've lived/worked at. And I know some who have now been married 5-10 years. There are also some that didn't work out, but its like that with any marriage survey.
Its hard to be a military spouse, and its hard to be in the military with a family but if you are strong and love and trust each other then everything will be alright :o)
My husband goes away a lot, and I go away a lot, but we have a deep sense of trust in each other and are emotionally capable of handling the separation. We are not all cheaters! |

close...I was 20...it ended in a divorce.
Getting married at 20 was a mistake...getting married to him was a mistake, we had nothing in common. I was barely out of my teens and I had no clue about life. Now that I'm mature I know I was not in love with him but with the uniform. Life on military bases was not easy, I spend 12 years 2,000 miles away from my parents, siblings and friends. Those years he got to concentrate on his career and I got to put mine on hold. |

I know a lot of Navy wives as I live in a Navy town.
They married extremely young, 18-20, and were divorced and single moms within 3 years.
Not everyone turns out this way, but a military life is rough. Most young people can't handle it. |

It's like any other young married couple. It can go perfectly great or it can go horribly wrong. Just depends on the man and the woman getting married. You have to have a strong backbone to be an army wife! |

I got married at 19. Things are going awesome. It's hard at times, they go away and you are basically alone. My husband is deploying later this year and I will be a single mom with two kids for a year... but that's the way it goes. That's their job and you need to consider everything before you get married. Make sure this is the life you want to lead.
Just read other comment above mine. Not most military man cheat... being the military doesn't make them more subjectable to cheating. He is dog or he is not, no matter his profession. But I will tell you if you have insecurities about your man's fidelity, don't marry an Army man. Whether or not he cheats, he will be gone and if you are the type to worry, it will eat you alive. |

I was an Air Force wife who got engaged at 18 and married at 19. Most foolish move of my life. Way too young to be married, to know what I wanted out of life, to know who I was as an adult, etc. I was an idiot.
Seven rocky years later we separated, and over 2 yrs after that the divorce was final and my 20s were gone. |

dont listen to other stories, i understand you need advice but hearing some of the horror stories moght hurt more than help. if you are not feeling secure in your relationship, i would seriously reconsider getting married to someone in the army, especially if you are a civilian. it is a tough life, especially if you husband is in a unit that deploys often. being away from your spouse takes such an extreme toll on the relationship so if you dont think you can be strong or dont think you can trust your partner, GET OUT. there are more fish in the sea and yes marriage is a partnership but you still have to look out for the starplayer, YOU! |

My Grandma got engaged to my Grandad when she was 16 and he was 19. He was in the RAF. They got married just after she turned 18. They are still happily married now with children and grandchildren.
It can go wrong but all relationships can go wrong. There are no guarantees with love and marriage.

I agree with Schattan. I've never married a military man but I've dated two in the past and they both cheated on me. I work in a military installation and I can tell you, most of them cheat on their wives. |

Almost did, turned out horrible.
Truth is, most military men cheat. Most wives/girlfriends at home cheat. Neither can ever really stand a relationship apart. Cause really...is it a true relationship when that person is always gone?
In my opinion, men that choose to join the military and leave friends and family deserve to be alone. THEY CHOOSE IT. Let them have what they choose. |
