First off, I'm devastated. I am going to be filing for divorce but I have never been married before and dont know where to begin. We were happily married (so I thought). Easter was a blast, we were happy and enjoying our family and the very next day we got into a small argument that esculated and led to him hitting me & choking me. He went to jail and now our happy marriage ended- at the drop of a hat. I feel bad since I may have provoked him but I wont let any man put his hands on me.
I cant afford a lawyer, in fact, the only money I have... he took. I applied for legal help and I just dont know if I will get it. I am worried! I want to file for divorce first. He CAN afford a lawyer, I cant. He has tons of money, I dont. I am so scared & dont know where to begin. We dont have joint accounts... do I still get half? He won a bunch of money... am I entitled to any of it? he won it during the marriage, plus he makes over 100k a year. The house was his prior to marriage so I am sure I dont get that and I dont even care. I just need money to survive and get out. I have rights to the house currently in the order of protection. I work so I dont think I can get alimony... I make 30k a year, give or take. How long does divorce take? we have kids but NONE together. we have been married 1 year and a half. Were in AZ.

first you need a 6 month seperation period, and if he agrees to not contest or fight the divorce look for a lawyer who does them... make your consultation appt to talk to the lawyer, give him information he needs and find out his cost.. they are cheaper then regular divorces.. my first divorce cost 500 and in 60 days i was divorced.. after 11 years of seperation.. if he contests it will cost more for a regular divorce and more time consuming legally and mentally..file for financial aid.. to help you out.. if the money was won during the marriage.. its not all his.. it was aquired in the marriage its both of your money.. |

get ur police report, and contact legal aid.. if u hv pix of any abuse take them too.it'll be free. im not sure if u have to press charges) it shouldnt take long- that is if ur not going to fight for anything. |
