Explain as best you can to your kids - but there is no way they are actually going to understand. Still - they are grown ups - allow them the space to work it out themselves too.

I was married for 20 years and divorced March 9th. My advice? Just give her half and be done with it. It may not be "fair" since like me, you probably made most or all of the money. But, in the end ,it's just money and things. You will make more of both.

What's important is you will have peace of mind that you were more than fair. Well, eventually you will. It will mean everything to your kids that you were too. As for your ex? The fact you weren't a D$ck will make her wonder later on how bad she F$#CKed up losing a decent guy. You win!

I think that you should be concern about you, I am not telling you that you should not care for the children but remember this is not new to them (they probably have many divorce friends and friend that come from divorce family) it will hurt of crouse but they will also want what best for you guys
have family reunion and tell them together

That's a darn shame after 28 year anniversary! Even if money matters is not your primary concern but trying to start over will be frustrating. If you have been served with divorce papers and have a 10/15 days hiatus to answer, DO NOT hire a lawyer YET. Represent yourself by answering her attorney presenting your objections to what you DEEPLY disagree in her demands. The reason I said that is the fact that her attorney will be forced to deal with you. Attorneys do not like that as you reduce the fighting and so, their money in stretching the divorce length. You can type your own letter and you will send a copy to the attorney representing her and also to the civil courthouse.

Many people have told you to rush and retain the service of a " good " and expensive lawyer. This is not a criminal case and believe me, there is no good or bad lawyer in divorce cases. In divorces, you can have a lawyer who is sympathetic and wants to help you or one acting like a pimp who fails to support you and let your wife win. When representing yourself, your wife's attorney cannot have secret meeting and arrangement with the other lawyer. He or she is forced to send you every paper he/ she files. Always answer by the deadline to buy time if case your wife comes to change her mind regarding the divorce. In your case, remember that it is cheaper to keep her.

As you have grown children, have them involved to decry the stupidity of a divorce of mon and dad at this stage of life.

good idea to get a lawyer because you do have the business for starters. it will take time, depending on how much is involved. my settlement took 9 months, my ex dragged his feet and i was getting frustrated over this. the divorce decree itself went thru very quickly. best of luck.

At least your kids are grown, they wont be hurt so much. Yes get a lawyer but dont expect alot. If the judge sides towards your wife you can count on losing at least 60% of everything. Welcome to the club.
