Do you think Marriage is vital in this day and age when it is so easy to divorce?

Yes, because otherwise people will think partners are completely interchangeable and switch them all the time plus it should be important when considering children who NEED stability.

A few points:

1. I don't think marriage has ever been "vital". Humanity doesn't need it to survive. It is the greatest social construct ever invented, but that doesn't mean it's vital.

2. If you think divorce is easy, you've never had one. Divorce is expensive, painful, and emotional.

3. I got married over 22 years ago, and I'm very glad I did. If you don't want to get married, don't get married.

well since you asked.
I don't believe you should just live together, and play house.

IF there is really a relationship that deep and meaningful...
GET MARRIED

The government approved version of "marriage" is a joke. The government is doing everything it can to sabotage Traditional marriage and replace it with their version of a big "government nanny".

Nothing is vital, but it's definitely the right choice for some and the wrong choice for others.

Faith
Marriage is important and it gives security and stability to a relationship and family. It gave me a lot of peace as a child knowing my parents are married. I think it's to easy for people to get divorced. If someone is being abused they should get divorced. Many people get divorced because it's more convenient than working through problems.

It depends what you want. What are your beliefs? Do you believe in marriage and what it stands for, or do you prefer being single and having a partner with no formal committment?

Lola
I don't think it's vital or necessary to anyone.
Some people do it and some don't. Nobody dies from having done it or not.
Honestly I'm married and sometimes wish we would have just lived together. It complicates things sometimes.

I think that it depends on the people involved and what their life goals are. Like do they want children? Do they want to own property? Do they want to be with the other person and do they want to totally commit their life to them. If they answer yes to any of the above then I believe they should be married first. But anyone who enters into marriage with the idea that it is so easy to divorce has already doomed the marriage. And take my word for it, if you really love the other person, it isn't easy to divorce.

No way! And it is not so easy to get divorced. In most cases, it's expensive, stressful, time consuming, etc.

Yes! Marriage gives legal precedent for such things as responsibility for children, Right to be present and make life and death decisions concerning your loved one. It allows the resources of the couple to be inherited without a will in case of accidental death. It allows one person to be carried on the others insurance. There are about 3138 rights that are automatically the spouses with a simple I DO.
By the way Marriage is a secular states right. It is not a religious right. The church, any church, Christian or other wise in the United States, can confer the rights of marriage on anyone. The most expensive wedding with the most holy people imaginable could not assign the rights and benefits of marriage on anyone without the license from the state, the agreement of the two involved to be married and the license filed with the state. That is the legal mechanics of marriage.
To solve the dilemma we now face concerning who should be allowed to choose the one they love to marry, I would have all marriages to be secular JP type marriages. Then if a couple chose to have a religious ceremony later, they could. They would be no more married without one as they were with one. That way the church could still decree whom it wants to discriminate against without being allowed to forbid marriage to any group.

I know what divorce is. It's a pain. Huge pain in your heart.During the process of divorce you really start to know the person who you used to live with. All the garbage just comes up. I realized that I never even knew the person before the divorce, and I used to be married with my X for 9.5 years!!! It's never easy!!!

I think that it does depend on the people involved. I want to get married some day, however, I would not rush into it and I do think that it is something that should be taken slowly and very seriously. As I tell my boyfriend, there is not rush because if we believe we are going to be together for life then there is no point in pushing it to full marriage to prove a point to other people. I think people these days get married for show, more than for a statement of their love.

I also think that people find divorce to easy of an option. I think that people walk away from spouses now a days for very immature and stupid reasons.

Some people believe in marriage others dont, my man asked me to marry him 10 times before I said yes, having been married before I did not want to do it again. I love him and said yes.
