Do you think he was overreacting?

ok so i lied to my parents of gong to swim team practices. i have lied to my parents like two other times this year. so my dad found out and now he's selling my phone my car and my prom dress and I'm not aloud to date my boyfriend. do you think this is wrong in the slightest bit?

i was doing anytthing i would just go and hang out with my friends and my parents have never trusted me but my pot head brother(literally) they love him they never did anything drastic the closest thing to this was grounding him for a month for throwing a keg/marajuana party while they werent home

Depends on what you were doing when you were supposed to be at practice. If you ditched to go to the movies...then yeah he's overreacting. But if you skipped to go out with your boyfriend and you were caught doing stuff that you shouldn't be at your age....well then I might agree with him. Maybe you should stop lying and then you''ll get to keep those things. BTW...as I'm sure your dad told you...none of those things are things that you have a right to. They are extra things that are given and taken at the discretion of your parents. No parent wants to give all of that only to be lied to.

If you lied about simple things like that what grounds have your folks to trust you?
You have to grow up and earn that trust back.
Your folks are trying to teach you that there are consequences to decisions we make. You lied, you are being punished. Live with it. If your folks didn't care about you they would not take these steps to try and teach you this valuable lesson.

Yes, I think you are overreacting, this is NOT about your brother, you LIED and they are doing what they think is best to teach you a lesson, you might think better of it before you lie the next time. Sorry sugar but they love you or they wouldn't care that you are a liar.

It depends what you was doing indstead of being where u were supposed to be. Its cool to lie everyone does when theyre growing up. If your dad does all of the things that he mentioned indstead of just threatening you with them then Id say he was over reacting. Maybe just confiscating them for a while would be more reasonable.

You want to be trusted, then act in a manner that is trustworthy.

They trusted you to go to swim practice. You didn't want to go, so you broke your parents trust because you would rather "hang with friends" than have your parents trust.

They have trusted a lot, and you have continually broken their trust in you. How many times would you allow a friend to break or your boyfriend to act like this?

It is only because they love you that they have taken steps to try to show you that trust is important, you will have to be trustworthy for your entire life! You husband must trust you, or your marriage cannot last. Your employer must trust you, or you will not be able to keep a job. Your friends must trust you, or you will never be able to keep a worthwhile relationship!

If you do not learn to be trustworthy, you will even have difficulty believing, or trusting, others.

No, your parents are not overreacting. They love you, and want to trust you. Help them by becoming trustworthy.

What has this to do with marriage and divorce?
Anyway, if you don't like it, move out and live by your rules.
