Yes, I DO think that's a good idea. The way it is now, it's harder to get a cat from the Humane society than it is to have a child!

I do completely agree that parenting classes should be mandatory. It won't solve all the problems, but it might help.

Maybe we should also make people take IQ tests prior to having children? If they score too low, no kids for them! Because I have seen way too many idiots running around breeding.....

Maybe you need to have a license to breed, just like driving a car. Hmmmm....the things I would change if I were president...

OMG! I absolutely think this should be mandatory. People are required to get a license to drive a car, fish, hunt, etc., but ANYONE can have children. Something definitely needs to be done about this.

Agree. Not everyone will become great parents and maybe going through a course would help.

Take a mandatory course? Taking a course might be a good idea but it's the "mandatory" course that bothers me. Apparently we have totally different ideas regarding freedom and a free society.
Who would you have give this course? Who would pay for it? How would you tell a pregnant girl who failed her course that she would have to abort her child because your "expert" didn't like the answers and her beliefs?

While I am sure your intentions are well intended, it would cause more problems, many more problems, than it would ever solve.

I think that reversable sterilization should be implemented and in order to be able to reproduce you should have to prove you're capable of being a good parent.

I don't understand why it's not mandatory already! You need to pass a test to drive. Why not for the MOST important job in the world?!? I also feel like people should have to undergo a psychological evaluation before they can have kids too. Maybe we wouldn't have so many children missing or dead by sick parents. It's a sad world we live in!

Nope. So who would you presume to teach this class? Who would pay for the class? How long would the class last? Do you just take it with your first child? Way too many issues.

Parenting is not a science, parenting is not a profession, parenting is not an art. Parenting is giving time, patience, love, wisdom, social protocol, understanding, direction, and guidance. It is about making mistakes, yet knowing how to correct them in a positive fashion. Unfortunately for some it lacks the necessary level. For others it falls on deaf ears.

All the problems of the 'next' generation cannot be blamed upon the last generation. Just read through the assortment of questions here that deal with young people who have life all figured out. They cannot understand why their parents, or other mature adults, could see things so differently than they.
