Do you think relationship(s) are predominately based on a lie?

This is all about what is called, "Being Human." No one knows what they are going to act like or say during a stressful situation until they are put in it. No one does. It depends on what it is.

I do not think relationships are based on a lie, but rather misconceptions. People assume once they get into a relationship or marriage that everything is going to be wine and roses, but that is not the case. You will have good times and bad times.

Generally, I suppose we're wired that way, but we hold deception in high regard anyway (movies, books, tv, etc. etc.) so I guess it's natural.

Relationships are based on selfishness. A lot of people want what they want the way they want it. When they don't get it, then you'll see the other side of their personality. If people lie it is often because they are selfish. It sounds as though you've become part of a difficult situation, and you've learned some things about your man that you don't like.

Not always. What you said is sometimes true though. In the face of adversity some people can't keep it together. But every so often you see two very positive people get married and no matter how bad things get along the way, they keep smiles on their faces and they keep looking forward. Those folks are somewhat rare. Some folks in life choose to work on their character defects. It sure is a painstaking process but in the end it is worth it. Then there are other folks who either don't know their character defects or they do know their character defects and they just don't give a crap. And if you get two of those people together in a marriage it is like a marriage made in the deepest depths of the hottest hell.

I don't see the correlation between your heading, and the paragraph below it. I'll just answer the heading question. Sometimes. Oh and i do see what your saying now... yes I think the true character of a person comes out when they are under fire so to speak. I think a lot of the time you really don't know who you are with until trying times come rolling in. Some people(Me) can't handle unnecessary excessive amounts of stress imposed upon us by other people, and when you think about it-should they really have to? Is that fair to the other person??

No, I don't believe that.

I mean sure, nobody shows their "true face" in the beginning, but you can't hide your true self for long and you shouldn't need or want to. If they cant accept you fully for who you are, then they aren't worth it.
