Do you think there is a definite surge among husbands killing their wives and kids, or is this just the media?

Hyping us up again?

And many of these stories are about affluent individuals who are running into money problems. Here's recent stories of family murder-suicides:

This is just a couple, but it seems to be on the news every day. Most of them cite depression over financial problems.

I personally had to let my own husband know I was "watching his a**." He told me he's been "watching my a** ever since I started watching Snapped on Oxygen."

So, what do you make of all these murder-suicides by "normal people?"

i did a little research on your question cause i know nothing about child murders or not as much as i do about prison stastics for african americans, whites and hispanics. im damn near an expert in that field. so i did my reseach. and in laymen terms i found out that approximately that most places that do statistics on it dont put it down. its so low and so rare that its not even on the chart.

whites 14-17 ages, have a 5 out 100,000 chance of getting murderd and about the same rate for blacks at that age (believe it or not). the only thing that surges is black males from the ager of 18-24 which is about 4 times higher than any other race.

so to answer you question, no. its not even on the map. the oppisite version of "off the charts" its not even on the chart.

And i also found out that between strangers/other family members, mothers and fathers. the each seperately account for 30 percent of the child murders. with strangers/other family members as one thing all togethers. So that even is even more rare.

now the news is the news, they often talk about the same case so much, after they spent the whole year and half on a case they jump to something else. and people think its the same thing happening again. when they were just watching two cases over a long period of time.

THE MEDIA IS POWERFULL STUFF

Tami
it is the media...Mothers are responsible for more child deaths each year than any other gender/person. Biological fathers are the least likely to kill, abuse, rape, or molest children...

The media would make no money at all, if they reported the statistically correct, as they have a target audience of mainly women...

Thanks for asking, it is enlightening to know that others question the media.

While the media loves bad news and has sensationalized it I think that the amount of stress on everyone to have what TV has portrayed as a successful life has led to many of these problems. How many people are on drugs for depression these days? We demand to much of ourselves and each other and some people cannot take the pressure. Most people spend more time at work to afford the big house than they spend in it.

it's not a surge only a surge in what the media is paying attention to.

none of these people were "normal", they were either depressed due to extreme stress or involved in violent relationships.

perhaps murder/suicides due to stress are up but not murder/suicides due to domestic violence--that one tends to remain fairly constant.
