Verbal abuse sumtimes hurts more than physical abuse, I have been unfortunate to be at the receiving end of both and if I had to choose I wud take a punch rather than endure the pain that the spoken work can cause. The fact is, abuse is never a good thing whether u r giving or taking it. |

Yes! So the saying
"Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words will never harm you"
really is not true at times. |

Verbal abuse is someone speaking to you in a demeaning way, calling you names etc,
Verbal abuse is battering which doesn't leave evidence that can be seen by others unless the abused person changes their behavior.
.I have seen the results of both physical and verbal abuse, they both are TERRIBLE.......... |

having worked in the divorce world. I can tell you that verbal abuse is just as bad or worse because it is typically day after day and year after year. If you are being verbally abused you need to get out now, get some counseling and find the new strong you. You are a good person. Let the world know it. |

It can.
Verbal abuse is abusing someone with spoken words and really just hurting their pride and ego. In some ways, it can feel worse to be verbally abused than physically. |

Verbal Abuse is where someone says you are stupid or insults you over and over, like bullying. IT is for no good reason. If someone said something like You are an IDIOT, for no reason, thats verbal abuse. |

Verbal abuse takes longer to recover from. Verbal abuse is saying something demeaning, degrading or insulting. For instance telling someone they are stupid, dumb, ugly, etc. |

Sometimes, verbal hurts more than physical. Physical is like bunching someone, while verbal is saying bad things about them.
Verbal abuse scars people on the inside, and physical scars on the outside.
Verbal can take some time to heal, if you said something really harsh.
It can leave a mark still after many years. |

yes it does.verbal is some one constantly putting you down. |

The saying "Stick and stones can hurt me, but words can't" is definitely wrong!!!
Harsh words that makes you down is much more severe sometimes, compare to physical abuse.
But, physical abuse does hurt also too of course |

verbal abuse is when somebody is saying a bunch of mean stuff to you that can make you doubt yourself and can be really hurtful. and it can hurt very much, people can get very depressed if they are verbally abused a lot |

Terra Lee

YES! it hurts alot.
verbal abuse is when you tease someone or mock them using words, like just saying it instead of hitting the person. Its most likely that girls use verbal abuse. I would say that sometimes it hurts more than physical. When physical, you can just heal from it sometime, but verbal.. it might be in your head for forever. Some people suicided because of this. Its really sad. |

Yes. Haven't you ever made someone cry by saying something really mean? Or have you ever cried b/c someone said something cruel to you? Verbal abuse can range from calling someone fat all the time to threatening to hurt someone. I'm not saying if you called me fat once, but rather if you constantly did it on a regular basis.
Just google it if you're really interested. Or wiki:

does verbal abuse hurt as much as physical?
answer= yes it can hurt, just as much as physical abuse. |

name calling and put downs anything degrading |

Yes
Verbal abuse goes hand in hand with mental anguish and can actually be far more detrimental than physical abuse, because while bruises and physical pain fade, mental pain remains and festers without some proper care and recognition, If you tell someone something often enough they will tend to believe. it destroys self esteem and can lead to manic depression. |

Assuming your younger than 10 and this is in the marriage/divorce category because your parents are going through a divorce and that's how this question came up:Yes of course, obviously depending entirely on the person and what is said. But in short, it can be as much, less, or more.
Not assuming anything:Dumb ******* question |

Verbal abuse is so broad, and it can range from flat out name calling, to mood swings (sweet as hell one minute, angry as hell with you the next). I'd say it hurts worse and can really bring your life down. I was in an abusive relationship, and didn't realize till after it ended. Abusers are so slick, there's actually a pattern and you can find this subject online, just google it. There's sites that actually help you to recognize and how to respond to the abuse. Trust me, these people know how to eff with you and they do it just to get what they want. They will make sure they keep you below them mentally. Friends, partners, family members are all guilty of verbal abuse. Get the hell away from people like that, and surround yorusefl with positive influences in your life. |

Nothin but the truth

Sense women are emotional, verbal abuse could stress a woman out to the point where she is mentally scar. Not like being retarted or anything but it triggers alot of pain. Especially if a woman has a bad past and is trying to do good. |

Verbal abuse is when someone is called-names such as (stupid, idiot, moron, b*tch, wh*re..) degrading, vindictive names, being told you are worthless, etc. Whether intentional or unintentional. Studies show that the trauma from mental/verbal abuse is just as bad or worse than the trauma suffered from physical abuse. Scars heal up eventually, but the scars you suffer from mental abuse is far more complex, and verbal abuse could lead to a lot of unhealthy things (like severe depression, cutting, thoughts of suicide, etc.)
