Exactly how long do you "wait" for a marriage proposal?

You don't "wait" for a proposal.....I mean I know every girl wants one but you have what you want. Have you seen the movie "He's just not into you" ? Jennifer Anistan's Character she left her boyfriend because she wanted to get married and realized that out of all the married sisters, she had the best "husband"
If you want to leave and start over from scratch, more power to you....but I wouldn't want to leave.

i dont know anyone that is happily married but if this is something you really want the feeling isnt gonna go away. Tell him how you feel and his response will tell you what to do. He should want what makes you happy.

Well you might have this image of a picture-perfect world in your mind, but obviously he doesn't or else he would be proposing. Something is holding him back.

i think it depends on your age and what goals each of you have.If your both well over your mid 20's then I think it's time to have the talk and ask him exactly what he wants for his future and see if your in it.As usual men have a problem committing and maybe he just isn't ready to marry and he thinks by proposing it's actually sealing the deal to wed.

There is no time frame for waiting. Although you are ready to marry, to marry a man who isnâ€™t ready for whatever reason is a recipe for disaster. Consider not living together until the time is right. It only complicates matters.

This is a REALLY long time to be waiting for a proposal. I know men need to feel like they have everything in order before proposals, but this is beyond getting things together. I have to wonder in a situation like this if he is the type of man who doesn't want to be bound by a wedding ring. The problem here is that you want to get married. I know you say your best friends but when is he going to take your feeling into consideration. It LIFE only going to be about him and his goals and keep making you hold on and for how much longer. Because 5 years is already an enormous amount of time to be waiting for someone to tell you They love you enough to put a RING on your finger so other men don't hit on you.

To bad someone wasn't hitting on you and would make him feel like he was loosing you. Some men need to realize they are loosing you before they act. Unfortunately this may be what your MAN is like. You may have to move on and let him know that you aren't going to WAIT forever for him to decide if you WORTH having as a wife. If you do this one of two things will happen 1- He realizes if he doesn't act and get his feelings straight he will loose you. 2-Or he will let you go and you will have to move on. I hope it is number 1. I hope you can work this out, but remember in a relationship both partners should be supporting one another and there dreams and goals the best they can. Partners that LOVE one another don't hold each other back.

You're done waiting if marriage is that important to you. But, possibly, he doesn't feel marriage is necessary until you start plans for a family. At that time, he will probably be like my friends who married after years together because they finally decided they wanted children.
I have heard people say that they had a wonderful long relationship so thought marriage was the next step. But getting married changed the dynamcs and it didn't last. So, maybe he's heard something like that, too.

It took mine 5 years also, its not that long to wait... Mine suprised the hell out of me and believe me it was worth the wait. Just let him know that its something that you want and leave it at that. Men are afraid of committment, he prolly thinks that things are fine the way they are, if it gets to 10 years, then I would be complaining :)

The rule is that if someone does not want to get married within two years of the relationship starting, then it becomes less and less likely. If he loves you and he knows that's what you want, then he's had more than enough time to decide if it's what he wants too, and it seems he has reached the conclusion that it isn't. That requires challenging.

The only thing you left out is how old you and he are. That might tell a little more of the story, but if someone has what you have going on then my question would be what is someone waiting for? You can test drive a car only so long before they make you buy it, why would he keep on unless he is getting everything he wants out of this model but reality is that he has his eye on another model? Maybe this one should break down and be in the shop for a while and see if he either steps up to the plate or if he would high tail it out if he wasn't getting the benefits without the commitment.

2 years of living together is long enough to know if you could commit to live with them for the rest of your life- after that i would leave

I see nothing wrong in asking him. But i ask my wife after just three months of dating.She said yes and we have been happily married for twelve years!
