Feeling GUILTY for leaving?

Earlier this month I told my boyfriend I was leaving. I found an apartment and will be living with a roommate. I am Very excited to start my life over again.
The problem is that tragedy has occured and my boyfriend "really needs" me. This is a life altering problem and horrible timing on my part, even though I told him I was leaving prior to this event.
My family and friends say to go...His family is blessing me for sticking by him. It also seems like now he is telling me and willing to change the behaviors that made me want to leave in the first place...
SO do I stay and get him through this time? OR do I leave and start my life over?
I am 32 - I want to meet someone someday, have a family, grow old with someone...and this issue with him could take months to years...
I just feel so much guilt leaving in his time of need...I feel selfish, I just dont know how to keep on doing this.

Thank you all so much! You are all right...and I know that, I just have to do the hard thing and tell him I am still going! IKES....hate being grown up.

u can't put your life on hold for his problems, if u no longer love him like u should i would just go on my way and live my life. u have to ask yourself if it would even matter at this point if he did change. would u try to restore the relationship if not u need to think about u. |

Relationships are meant for BOTH people to be happy. Yes, it's tough when he has other problems in his life. It is not your job to fix anybody, (hey maybe I'm selfish for saying that... but it doesn't change the fact that it's 100% true). You can still offer to be an ear, or a friend during his difficult time... you DON'T have to stay in a relationship when you are not happy... that doesn't help.
Don't listen to anyone giving you attitude about your age... you're still young (30s isn't old, I'm in the same boat as you)and have MORE THAN ENOUGH time to go out and find "him". But that doesn't mean that you should stick around a waste time with someone who isn't right for you. Get out of your situation, live your life, and know it's the best thing for you. Sometimes what's best for one isn't always completely popular, or easy/ simple, etc... but sounds like you need to go. Just my opinion. Hope you find what you're looking for. |
