I got a request for a child support modification from the DOR in Florida. I called them and they told me my ex husband is claiming his income has decreased, but he hasn't turned any paper work in yet to prove it. He's a letter carrier (for over 18 years), so it's not like he's getting laid off or anything. I'm really nervous about what to expect, the DOR really isn't very forthcoming and tell me to call other numbers if I ask something of them they don't want to feel like answer. Can anyone tell me who's been thru this what to expect?

Go through the courts. The DOR will tell you anything to get you off the phone, and take their time getting things done. Call your local clerk of court Family Division, and ask them what can you do.
You may be given a court hearing at which time his income will be reevaluated and an order will be placed. Call your county court. |

If his income has decreased, and he can prove it through income tax returns or pay stubs, the court WILL reduce his child support. He has to fill out the "Child support modification" paperwork, which does consist of a financial affidavit. Most likely, the judge will go back to the date his income was reduced to determine any arrearages. |
