For the married couples out there:?

We were hanging out with a friend in his den, Playing 8 ball, and just hanging out. He had just proposed to his girlfriend, and so the general conversation was about marriage and stuff. This would make a lot more sense if I could remember the exact conversation, but at some point in the conversation, I turned to my girl friend, put my arms on each side of her and pined her up against the back wall of the den, and asked her face to face "Well....would you marry me?" "She said "I guess so..."
Now on the other side my wife is right now sitting next to me, so I asked her how did she fell when I made my somewhat impromptu proposal, and she says she felt pressured! That since we were with a friend, and the situation surrounding things, she felt she couldn't really be herself, and really speak her mind or have an intimate conversation with me about the proposal. Not that her answer would have been different, or maybe it would have been, but she wasn't given the real chance to intimately, personally discuss things with me.
Bottom line? Married 32 years this June, 5 kids, 3 grand kids. Our #3 son is sitting here with us, and his wife and daughter are here too. Goofy proposal, and surroundings, but somehow it worked perfectly.

My husband proposed to me when we returned from a dinner out at a great restaurant. He slid over to the couch on one knee with a little box in his hand. We had talked about marriage and we'd even been looking at rings, so I wasn't completely surprised, but he did take me off guard a bit. I felt wonderful! I couldn't wait to call my mom and sister. It was a great feeling!

My husband took me to the place we met (Target, we both worked there) and asked me to marry him.

I was not surprised, as we had picked out the ring together earlier that week.

Regardless of the "no surprise" element, it was still amazing, and it was totally him, he is not a "surprise" kind of guy.

I took my wife to watch the New Year's ball drop in downtown San Antonio. We ate down there and on the way to the San Antonio Tower (where the celebration was) we stopped at the Alamo in a nearby gazebo. I proposed to her there. It was really cold. Then we walked the rest of the way to the tower and watched the fireworks.

Even though we had talked about it like everyone else and I knew she'd say yes, I was still nervous as hell.

Yes, we had talked about it a lot, but I was still surprised.

I expected it on our 1 year anniversary and it didn't happen. Then I expected it at Christmas but again I had received the gifts from him and thought that was that. However toward the end of Christmas morning (after we ate breakfast and all) he took me into a back room of the house and told me (still in his pajamas) and told me he forgot one gift and wanted me to open it. So of course I did. It was a small treasure chest. Inside was a very beautiful note about how I was the treasure he had found. The ring was also in the box...he took it, went down on one knee and proposed.

Though I was very surprised, no one else was. Everyone else knew he was going to do it...even my family. He had had the ring for more than four months and asked my parents properly and all. The only people he didn't tell were my good friends....they would have blabbed.

My husband proposed to me on my birthday. He had the ring in his glove box and told me my gift was there and to go and get it. When I found the box and opened it he looked at me and asked me to marry him. I was however not shocked as a girl we both knew spilled the beans to me a wk before. It ruined it for me but I never let him know.

I am a female and I am actually the one that told my now husband that I wanted to marry him. So he then told me that he was so glad I felt that way cause he thought maybe it was too soon to ask me. We had only been speaking for a month and a half and he was stationed in NC and I live in FL. (Hes military). I thought it was funny, so that is what made it so special to me.

my poor hubby tried to surprise me but he made 1 major mistake, he asked my father first. he was having the whole family meet for breakfast and going to ask in front of everyone, but my dad stole the thunder when he told everyone before hand and of course it got back to me.

My husband proposed during a car trip to my brothers house for Christmas one year. We stopped in a state forest to take a walk (out in the snow) and he asked me there. I wasn't surprised he was asking (we had previously discussed timing), but I was oblivious to what was happening, so he did take me somewhat by surprise.
