Do whatever the doctor recommends, for starters.
The thing that a lot of people don't realize is ... yes, he had the actual heart attack, but it's really more like "the family had a heart attack".
He will be going through an emotional catharsis right now, hon. He might come out of it the exact same man as before he fell ill, but sometimes when we face death like this, our perceptions may change. You have to be mindful of the process, and that it might take months for things to stabilize for him emotionally and mentally.
You have to be patient with him if he seems "different". Let him heal as it happens, and make sure he understands that you're there for him no matter what. I'm not sure what you've told your kids or how old they are, so I can't speak to that ...
I've heard that people who have had near death experiences often have an epiphany in which they say that they "finally understand what's important and what isn't," and then they end up more easy going. Conversely, others become depressed because of fears that are brought to the surface.
As cliche as this is going to sound, you have to let nature run her course for the most part. Everyone is different, so you'll have to chart the course as it happens, and be more re-active (which, personally, I hate. I like to attack a situation head-on and be pro-active ... but you can't do that here, hon).

MY dad did when I was younger. I would #1 be happy you are still here. My dad was 46 when he had his. My mother was scared alot he would have another one. Just dont do too much, and take a step back and realize now you got a GIFT from God. You touched your own mortality. Take more time wiht your kids, your wife is the most impirotant person in the world |

My husband had a heart attack at 49 but he had to have a by-pass which he isn't all together himself yet even after 9 months. It's just him and i our son is grown and lives in a different state so i only have him to take care of so it's not to bad.
