Really I think the best thing and most loving thing you can do is give him space. Since you have kids I am sure you are still in contact with him on a regular basis, so maybe just slip in general "how are you" in a sincere way. Or since you do have children how about plan a family day where you all go out together. See if you can rekindle something there.

My husband's father once told him that any woman that doesn't help you be better only makes you worse. He has told all of his friends that before they get married. I think the most attractive thing about a woman (to any real man) is her abilities. If he thinks you NEED him, he's already won. He has to see that you two are in each others lives because you WANT to be. Taking care of your children has to be your number one priority (which it seems to be). If you decide to look into going back to school or getting a better job or volunteering somewhere, he can see that you are not completely helpless with out him. He will know what a strong beautiful women he is missing out on.
