Guys: He told me "I love you", but he is not ready for a relationship.?

I am dating a man (we both once married before and we are now our 30s) only since this February. It all began when he came to me first and he wanted me to date him.

Actually we are having a great time together and I thought we are developing for something serious slowly.

But, when I mentioned him where we are..he told me "He does not want to hurt me, but his past is still haunting him".

I know he had a very bad breakup last year and I am understanding, but I was still hurt.

Therefore, I suggest him to have fun time together, but do not think any future now..Because I also need to think what do I need to now.

But, that night, when we kissed each other, he suddenly told me "I love you": It was first time he spoke "L" word to me..
But, I was confused, so, I could not return same words to him even I am in love with him.

Now, I don't know what to do.

Guys, what do you see this situation as a man's view?

I think he may be a great guy. He still is coping with his break-up, after a year. That tells me he was very serious about her, that he doesn't take love lightly.
Instead of showing that you were hurt, and making a big deal of it, You showed him a great day together, without pressure. Apparently he appreciated that.
I'd say, that at this point, he loves you, and THAT is a good start.
I'd also say that he is afraid of "being in love". Yes, there IS a difference.
What do you do? You are doing fine. You know how you feel about him, but he hasn't heard the words. But he HAS seen the heart you have, being patient, and respectful of his pain, and not really pressuring at all. That's all good. Maybe the words are important, maybe not. Your generous & compassionate way of being with him, may be enough. Some guys get that, some don't.
Do not "toot your own horn", to do so is self-serving.
Maybe when he said it, he was just "in the moment", and it came out. I can't possibly know, do you? Or maybe he really meant it. If he says it again, do not "blow it off". If You feel it too, tell him. You are more in touch with your mutual dynamics than you realize. I think you are great.

and also, if he loves you, things will develope, its just hard right now to see that.

I'm not a man but if you've only been together since February I wonder why your trying to rush things. Your just getting to know each other, relax and stop trying to get a commitment from this guy after only 2 months. It take more like 2 years sometimes. If you want a lasting relationship you should just relax and stop getting your feelings hurt so quickly. I would question why this man even said he loves you after such a short time together, how can he possibly know that already.

Bad breakups can scar someone..for life. he may not ever be completely healed from it. if you really do see a future with him, just stick with him for a bit, if nothing happens, just move on and maybe he'll see what hes missing eventually and go back to you
