Has anyone ever gone to school at the same time as their spouse?

We met in the Army- he's 25 I'm 20 and have a baby.
I have my Associates degree and a, pretty scholastic.
He has a 2 yr tech degree and is pretty ADD.
He is a disabled vet so gets a program that pays him $790/month to go to school.
I get $500/month from my Army school benefits.
He would get a part time job.
We have a baby I stay home w now and would both watch if in school.
My dad think it's the WORST idea ever (no faith in us).
He's in online school now where he learns NOTHING.

So do you think it could work for us to both be enrolled at our local small college?? And he quit his job (makes 27,000$ (and we survive!) to work part time plus that $1,300 additinal? Has anyone ever tried this?? Advice??

I am going to college now with my husband. He is going for his master's degree and I'm finishing my bachelor's degree. We go to local community college. At my college there is a daycare option. So, I suggest exploring that. We don't have kids so I'm not sure how much you need. I have 2 jobs and work a total of 16 hours a week. My husband has 2 jobs and he is teaching 2 classes this term and tutoring 6 hours. Before he was teaching we did ok but, now is a bit better of course.

I advise you to do your FAFAs and apply for grants and loans. This will help you during college. Also, if at all possible see if his job can work around classes...see if classes are offered at times when classes can be worked around. Consider going part-time? However, by finding campus jobs you can take advantage of the day care on campus and gain cash.

If you manage you cash wisely and plan your time well I think you can do it. Speak to an advisor at some colleges and get an idea what you need to do. I think if you have benefits that is a great head start...along w/ FAFSA.

ADD---> You will be busy. However, it's only a few years. Realize you'll be busy! Work on your schedule w/ your husband. If you both compromise and take responsiblity I think you can do it. How old is your baby? The daycare at my school is for kids 1yr and can walk. If you and your husband can use the daycare that will help...if not then you have to alternate schedules esp w/ work. You will be busy but, it can work....just make sure 1) you and your husband have time to relax indv. 2) Time together as family 3) Time together alone. May have to schedule out in advance...you will be busy but, it's worth it to provide the best to your family. I don't agree with one of you scaraficing for the the other...that's not smart. Someone will resent someone and you run the risk of one person not understanding the other's schedule b/c school is much different than work.

In online classes you can get easily distracted so I wouldn't recommend them because you have a lot going on already.

Your dad is right. Don't try to do to much. How can you both watch the baby if you are both in school? Work on one degree and then the other.
