Help Me With This Marriage Complication!?

Hi my name is ashley. Im almost 22 years old i have been married to my husband for only 6 months but been with him for 3 years. Let me start from the day of meet. Tony and i met one day and i knew he had family troubles but who dosent. I helped him get a job at mcdonalds and he worked hard at it for 7months then i found out he was cheating for awile, so we broke up for 2 months and he came back and i accepted. since then it has been 3 years in which he hasnt anyway made it up for the heartbreak. still hasnt found a job, instead he smokes weed all day long and lives off me, yet he does help me when i need the dog to be taken out , or fold clothes but even when he does this he still complains about it. For this last year hes just been yelling at me and griping about how he cant get a job because of his background(some misdemeanors.).. i feel like moving alone but dont know if i should just try to keep helping him on the right path.

It's time for you to move on or you'll be doing this for the next twenty years. He's really 'dependant' on you. What he needs is some independance. So do you. |

Coming from experience, you can not make it work if you're the only one trying, and you can't "save" him if he doesn't want to be saved. |

You've got to be straight and forceful with him. Tell your husband that if he intends to keep this lazy behavior up, you'll have to leave him. This isn't a partnership. He's taking advantage of you, whether he loves you or not. Plus the longer he discourages himself from seeking work, the harder and harder it is going to be to get a job.
BTW, I think it's time to forgive him for cheating way back when, because you're married now and you don't need to keep reliving the past. Either you forgive him or you break up at this point. |

Leave him, you tried to help him in many ways only to be left with nothing more than a child to take care of. I am married only 8 months, when my husband was laid off, they closed the dealership doors, it was 2 months after we were married. He kept the house clean, did the laundry, cooked dinner every night and more... his unemployment helped to make things a little easier. We are older and have 4 girls between us from prior marriages but we made it through the hard time. The big difference is he tried he did not do drugs but tried in every way to show his love for me. He is back at work, now we are back to sharing in housework. Do not feel guilty, but leave. |

You sound like a very forgiving and generous women. I also think it sounds like when you meet a man who is like you - generous and kind - you will be more fulfilled and satisfied than you can ever imagine.
What you describe is not a good relationship; it is not love. There is so much more out there, and I hope you free yourself to be open to it coming your way.
