Help! My wife has a texting addiction!?

My wife and are very happily married. I love her to death and I dont have any real issues in our marriage except for one: she has a serious texting addiction! I know shes not texting other men (she offers to let me see any of her texts and always leaves her phone around), its mostly her children and a few friends. Texting isnt a problem, almost everyone does it from time to time. Hers is a problem though. Every morning before even kissing me or saying good morning to me she checks her messages and send at least one. Throughout the entire day her phone is buzzing with new messages. We cant even go on a date, to a movie, dinner, anywhere, without her constantly checking her phone to see if she maybe missed a text. Its gotten to the point that even during a conversation she will stop in the middle to answer a text if she gets one! I dont think she means to put me off, I just think that this has become a serious addiction for her! I have brought it to her attention a few times, and was extremely nice about it but she just gets angry and tells me to just turn her darn phone off for good if Im going to be that way.

Any serious and solid advice as to what to do? SERIOUS answers only.

I had a sister in law like this...she also happens to be one of my best friends...she is HORRIBLE about it...

Bottom line is you need to sit down and talk to her about it and let her know what you want.

I used to text alot and did it on dates and stuff with my hubby and he got mad and then asked me to not do it on dates etc...I did and we are both alot happier!

The next time you are out on a date and she starts texting do this..

Send her a text that says "Hey sweetie...I'd really like you to not text during this date...I want you all to myself! Love You"

See if that helps!

Why don't you mimic her behavior so she can see for herself how annoying it is.

Take her phone away.

Seriously, if this is that much of a problem then do what she suggested and turn her phone off - but be prepared for the consequences of doing so. Such as her being angry with you, getting her own phone, etc. Your other option would be to suggest to her that when you guys are out together (movie, dinner, etc) that she not text during that time and you will let the rest of it go as it is not really a big thing any more.

Buy her a book on MANNERS.

Let her know, its not only you that thinks its rude, but someone has written a book about when it is and is not appropriate to text.

Tell her... she may not agree, but you don't think there is ANYTHING so important that it needs to be read/written in the middle of movie or dinner or anything.

Just tell her, you would appreciate her UNDIVIDED attention when you are with her and you are unable to get that because she is too involved with her texts.

I do text alot, but mainly to my boyfriend or mom since I'm always about a thousand miles from one of them. My cousin used to do nothing but sit in her room and talk to people on her phone. She got it taken away and hasn't had it for about a month now. She is alot different and actually does stuff with her family now and everything. [She is only fourteen though.] Anyways, try talking to your wife again, and suggest that maybe not to text for a week or a day or something and see how it affects how she does things. Sometimes I'll notice that I am texting alot and not really paying attention to things. Tell her to try not using texting for a week and see how things go. I can understand her texting her kids, because it's an easy way to talk to someone without sitting on the phone, but yes texting can get very annoying, especially if it's done that much.

Hope I've helped.

It seems to me you have a few problems #1. She seems to have an anger problem if in fact you went to her non accusingly and she jumped down you throat. #2. Her feelings seem to be more important to her than you and #3. She has this addiction to texting. Lets start with #1 if you accuse her in any way it will set her off however if you ask for help and choose your words she may not jump all over you. #2 Try explaining this to her in a sympathetic way. #3 if you can get through to her this should cure your problem. Lastly she will need proof of her addiction.

She sounds like a teenager. what the hell is wrong with her? I guess you have to take that phone away from her like a parent would do to his/her children.

I THINK THAT YOU WIFE SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT MORE UNDERSTANDING THAN WHAT SHE IS....TEXTING IS OK, BUT WHEN IT STARTS TO INTERFERE WITH THE SPOUSE THEN SOME ADJUSTMENTS HAVE TO BE MADE....HUSBANDS/WIVES NEED TO BE MORE SENATIVE TO ONE ANOTHERS NEEDS...

I think you might have to find something to do with your time during that period of the day.

I'd probably snap the phone in half - but my short temper is legendery :P

Some ground rules of "No texting in bed" or "No texting on dates" might work. She is an adult after all, there should be some common sense wandering around in her skull. Or google a few internet items regarding texting etiquette and give to her.

If none of that works, snap the ****ing phone in half! LOL!

EDIT: Are you paying for the phone? Change the bill to her name and get her to foot the bill. It might cause her to be a little more selective over her texts, especially if she cannot afford a 'unlimited' package. I would not pay a bill for something bugging me that much!
