Too much toilet paper also backs the toliet up too...so how much are you using to wipe your ***? There are certain female products that were designed to be flushed down the toilet. I have been using them and there have never been problems with it.
Here is what you do...get them to throw it in the garbage and you take out the bathroom trash every 3 days.....it makes the bathroom smell discusting. So there, make a deal with them. They garbage all female products and you take it out to the garbage cans. That would work, or you could just believe your wife and stop arguing over something so stupid. |

I have a friend that is a plumber and he refuses to let his wife and daughters flush theirs down the toilet.
The company I work for put signs in the women's restroom asking that we do not flush ours. |

Most of the time, the only thing you should flush down the toilet is toilet paper. Unless the product specifically states that it is safe for flushing, I wouldn't flush it. You can't flush regular baby wipes either. If nothing else, how hard is it to throw in the garbage vs. flush it down the toilet? |

Can't they read and understand English???? Right there on many packages or whatever, it says products are non flushable. |

What's the big deal - why can't they just wrap them in toilet paper and drop them in the trash. I am a woman. I agree with you - they do cause backups. We lived in the city of San Antonio, Texas for years. Always had probs until we stopped. Plumber told us the same thing. We stopped. No more probs. Ask any plumber - they will tell you the major back up in systems, even commercial blgs. is feminine products. |

You are correct, your wife is not. |

Every woman knows NOT to flush them down the toilet!
No offense, but your wife is a dunce.
Um, duh, those "things" expand. Forget about the city sewage, wait unti you call a plumber and he has to "fish" one out of your home sewage. Yikes. |

Dude

Maybe once it gets to the sewage drain but there's plenty of turns and bends before it gets there. I'm with you on this..you don't flush that stuff down the toilet!! |

ask her why public ladies toilets ALL have separate containers for disposing of tampons and pads and even signs reminding women to USE THEM, if it wasnt a big deal? they are part of the city sewer system too!
i dont know what ur wife got taught but every girl i know was taught in puberty never to flush anything like that, pads, tampons or wrappers down the toilets...not only does it clog toilets but it ALSO makes water recycling alot more difficult for companies...tell her in the end what is the big deal about her putting a damn tampon in the garbage knowing how u feel about it anyway? is she the one that clears teh toilets anyway...seriously something bothers u, she can fix it, why doesnt she? ur not asking for much, its a damn garbage, tell her stop being a spoiled brat |

Yeah, that is not a good thing to do. Plus it is not good for your pipes. |

Experience should show that it does cause clogs and it is also very nasty. Female products should be handled as hazardous waste and disposed of in the proper manner, wrapped and put in trash. Since there are three women there should be a special receptacle for those products that has a plastic bag and can be emptied without embarrassment. |

I can tell you that you are right because I had to have a plumber come and oger my toilet because it wasn't flushing right. When he got into the trap a tampon string was caught and it would catch the toilet paper like every other flush and eventually backed the whole system up. He told me that they may say they are flushable, but they recommend them to be thrown in the trash because they cause a lot of backups. |

Wow quite a bit of answers! Hopefully you will get to myn'! :)...When i was growing up we flushed them, but then my dad blew a cork, when the septic backed up, not necesarily from the tampons, but because when they bought the house they didn't know the sewer had never been "flushed out" or whatever that maintenance on a septic is. But either way, i think that because you live in the city, it won't matter unless your toilet get clogged (i doubt that will happen) if it helps, just think about all of the houses up and down your street that are flushen' em' down! |

Learning as I go!

I work for the city sewer. The sewer system is designed to handle tampons, just not the applicator. Even if you have a simplex you can still flush a tampon. |
|

Blu

As long as they are not flushing the applicators, or sanitary napkins, then this should not be a problem. |

if they are flushing tampons that is fine...anything else needs to wrapped and put in trash can. |

Wife is a moron! Yes that stuff does clog up your sewage pipes, regardless of what it says on the box! How hard is it to just throw it out in a plastic bag?
Next time you have to pay to have the sewer line cleared (runs $300-400), tell her you are using the money you had saved for her birthday on it. Hopefully she get the hint! |
|

Just Me being Me
|
EASY to fix, make sure she knows that once her female products do clog up the system, and they will, she is going to be the one unclogging it. the city sewer system has nothing to do with the pipes under your house. once all that stuff gets down to the city system yes there is no problem, its when it dont make it that far that you get issues, so you are both technically right. |

oh no! do not flush anything down the toilet that is not suppose to and of course female products are one of them!! I have done it and I spent sooooo much money fixing it...please tell her no and find a plumer to tell them the causes of it...they will listen. I hope. |

I am in a house of 4 women who still have that.
Using a seperate bag for that kind of trash works well in our house. If you have dogs the bag must be up high because they are attracted to the scent and will tear that stuff up. |

my mom had to call a plumber out once when ours backd up al over our back yard. the problem? yes, tampons. |

wow your wife is a real winner where did u find her the trailer park? |

it will actually back up a toilet. tell her she doesn't want a backed up toilet, its not pretty, nor does it smell nice...
even an old rag would back up a toilet. tell her toilets aren't designed to have female products flushed down them. |
|

chinamigarden

If your wife has been doing this for years, how many times has your toilet backed up? There is the proof to your argument, either it happens frequently or it doesn't. On the other hand septic systems are not designed for this and they should not be flushed. |
|

Silence
|
It could cause problems either way, why not just throw it in the trash and save problems in the future? It's not fun when you have to fix it, you should make your wife and daughter to help you when the problem happens again. |

Try reading the insert in the box. It says Do Not Flush, Flushing the tampon is NOT recommended for septic systems. You can find this under the removal information. I'm sure they put this warning on the insert for a reason...... |

wife should know better, it's not okay to flush those things down the toilet and can be very costly to fix.. |

HMMMMMMMMMM
city sewer or not it can cause a back up lets just think if every woman in the city did this omgggggggggggggggg what a mess it would be they would never get it fixed
PLEASE TELL HER NO DONT DO THAT |

Well if they all have been flushing them right along and the toilet has not backed up.................I would assume it is fine. |

You DO NOT flush pads! That's a no no! I think tampons MIGHT be ok, but not the applicators.
If your wife thinks it's ok to flush them, then why do public restrooms always provide us women with special little "napkin trashcans" in each stall? How does she explain that one? Oh, and the signs in public restrooms saying "please do not flush sanitary products".
BTW: I just looked at my package of pads, and you don't even have to read to know not to flush them. It shows a picture of a hand throwing a used pad in the trash, then it shows a pic of a pad over a toilet with a BIG X over it. I think that means, do not flush! |
