I think since it is easier to get divorces and people marry for the wrong reasons, we see this |

They haven't. The divorce rate has been steadily falling since 1981.

To the extent that people say that divorce is a sign of moral decline in our society, it may be worthwhile to remember the days when a married woman was considered her husband's property and could do little or nothing if he was abusive. Was that moral? |

in the 1950s and earlier, women were trapped by society and culture and not being able to support themselves.
how things have changed for the better, i weep for my grandmother, who knew she was married to a pedophile and was forbidden by the catholic church and her culture to leave. or use birth control. she had six kids. she went insane in her later years, i think, to cope. |

Because people are not willing to stay in unhappy marriages anymore ......they expect more. |

Many people don't have a sense of commitment (to anything) and don't understand taking responsibility for their actions.
It's a societal thing. In the 1960s, if you got in trouble at school, you got in trouble again when you got home. Now your parents blame the teacher.
And if you said you'd do something, your parents saw to it that you did it - now, kids quit things whenever they choose, and their parents support them.
Marriage is another victim of the same issues - you aren't used to being held responsible for your commitments, so marriage is just something else to quit. And the other person is always to blame. |

There's less of a social stigma nowadays. Women are more independent and can support themselves so they don't have to feel trapped in an unhappy marriage. |

I think it's because there are far more opportunities available. It seems like, back in the Great Depression and earier, men and women had to stick together and make it work simply to survive. But, now days we can leave and make it on our own just fine, if we wanted to. |

In the beginning of any marriage relationship it is never easy.
Marriages will most certainly fail if both partners do not work together to nurture each other and the marriage relationship. Both partners must give 100% effort 24/7 365 days a year in order for a marriage relationship to grow.
Failure of each partner to do their fair share of building the marriage relationship causes problems and eventual decline in the relationship which in most cases leads to cheating or divorce.
One partner can never build a marriage and hope to hold it together by doing it all.
I was married 3 times in less than 10 years. None of my wives wanted to make a firm commitment.
Finally I found the woman of my dreams we've been together 10 + years and we work together everyday to ensure that are marriage is going to be last forever.
We make sacrifices for each other. It's like we have become one person dedicated to eachother's personal growth and happiness. |

Due to current laws, women are attracted more and more to marriage for the financial benefits. They reap these benefits even after divorce. Most guys think with the little head so they don't care as long as they are getting some. |

In my opinion, social conditions are changing for men and women. Economic conditions discourage core families where both spouses work. One is required to surrender their career interest to the other. this is hard. Also the law discourages fathers from abandoning their children and failing to provide economic support. So it's possible for a single parent to maintain a household. In fact many adults are simply choosing to have children outside of marriage and not suffer the legal entanglements. |

More and more men are seeing that the marriage contract is unfavorable to them. It started when the word obey was stricken from the vows. |

Because women no longer feel like property, and they are not property like they used to be. They won't tolerate the kind of behavior from men that women of other centuries did.
Also, as women became more financially independent, they no longer wanted the traditional wife and mother role.
The women who have careers and families definitely work their butts off.
Also, the decline of religion has had a great affect on the divorce rate. |

I think its because in the 70's and 80's people were still embarrased about a divorce. But now Im pretty sure most people dont actually think of what its going to be like married, they just love the sound of it, the dress, the one special day and so they jump in to the deep end and because its ok to get divorced now no-one cares if you do. Plus there are alot of gold diggers out there lol
Hope this helps. :)

We have became a nation of instant gratification, wanting everything "now". We have come to believe that we are entitled to infinite good times. The moment we become unsatisfied, it is time to move on and find another "fast" relationship to give us that "high" that we crave. |

because more and more people are doing it and we are all often "monkey see money do". In those years people were still "monkey see monkey do" so others would stay in their marriage even if unhappy because their parents, friends told them divorce was wrong and now a days parents, friends don't say that anymore!!!!!!! |

Because the divorce laws changed - they allowed a divorce for any and all reasons. No one had to try any more to resolve the problems/conflicts. Just throw it away if it gets too tough; do what you feel like.
People still don't take marriage serious enough. Divorce should only be for adultry, abuse (verbal/physical) or abandonment. Any other reason should be worked out with treatment (addiction) or counseling.
Saying "I don't love you anymore" is NOT a reason to get a divorce. |

People think marriage is a easy thing and can be recycled on a moments notice. As soon as something doesn't go their way they call it quits.
It's a 24/ 7/365 job. If you cannot commit to that, then forget it in the 1st place.
Did I say "Commitment"??? |

It is easier to make the decision now a days. Both parties involved have careers prior to getting married, so therefore nobody feels trapped by marriage. |

1. the stigma has vanished from it
2. divorce is easy to get... and since most states are no fault ( except NY and a few others ) no valid reasons are needed to divorce
3. a feminist movement that tells women they can have it all ( a lie ) so they try , they fail and then they divorce
4. a culture that emphasizes personal freedom at the expense of the family unit.. or the me too generation.. thus relationships are harder to form and build on, if you have self absorbed people
5. high divorce rates bring on children on divorce.. and thus lacking a 2 parent household have a 85% chance of divorcing themselves.. thus making the cycle repetitive, broken families bring on broken families
6. marriage without serious religious commitment, thus have a much higher divorce rate , since they really have no guilt about leaving
7. women cheating in ever higher numbers...now empowered with education and career, they feel that cheating is now in their domain of things they can do to feel equal to men.. and thus cheat easily are more opportunities
consequently, marriage rates are dropping, to a new historic low, there are more single people then there are married, as men no longer see the logical reason to get married if they stand a 50% chance or worse to getting divorced
women complain that they cannot find marriage minded guys, yet they are solely to blame for the current situation, and guys like Tom Leykas have huge ratings as he encourages men never to marry, after all, he argues.. there is no benefit to it for a man.. and he is correct |

our whole culture has changed dramtically over time. think about the songs that have come out today (ahem "lollipop by lil wayne") then think about the songs that came 60 years ago... TOTALLY different. 60 even 30 years ago, divorce was a sin, now it is common and practically welcomed in society |

After the honeymoon is over the real work begins.
Two people have to sacrifice their independent selves to work as a team with a common goal. Allot of people find it very hard making those kinds of sacrifices.
A friend once told me (who has been happily married since the late 80's that it's not 50% of effort and 50 % of effort from your mate that you both put into the relationship ~ It's 100% each.
That stuck with me. |

I believe that people concentrate on all the bad and not good. Also tolerence for one another has been shorter as well. A pastor had mentioned that why divorce and remarry when you may have to deal with a whole new set of problems and possible end the same.
There is too much freedom and the sanctaty of marriage has been ridiculed. We all need to understand the meaning of marriage vowels and remember that it is harder to start over then to just clean up what is in front of you.
I have had the oppertunity to come along many people that have been married for over 30 years. The thing is to step to the next level of love to COMPASSION. Understand the psychology of marriage along with one another. |

Because people are getting into marriages thinking it is going to be a fairy tale or end all their problems. And then they get married and find out it isn't what they thought it was going to be. Or they think they are marrying the man/woman of their dreams and then realize what a pig or slob or whatever that person truly is. And our society has made it easy and acceptable to just throw it away. If you don't like being married then just get rid of it instead of realizing you made your bed, now figure it out and lie in it. I do believe that there are certain reasons to divorce. But better yet, know what you are getting into before marrying and know that it isn't going to be easy or smooth. |
