How did your parent's divorce affect you?

I was 11 when my parents divorced at last. I can't remember a single day that they were ever happy or there wasn't a fight.
Because of this I find that I am unable to feel comfortable or even settled in a relationship. Even though I'm married I more often than not feel trapped and unhappy.
As a result I suffer with depression, have self esteem issues, find it extremely to trust people and have a real problem with intimacy.
Sadly, my sister fights with the same demons as I do.

I was 10 when my parents divorced. My dad was the one who left because he was cheating on my mom. It was best he left anyways since he was a mean drunk. As far as it affecting me, it left me depressed and without a father figure in my life... mom never remarried. I started acting out in school, got into fights, and my grades suffered for it. Now that I am an adult, it has made me stronger willed to not get a divorce for my children's sake, and I have never hit my wife in anger. Still married after 23 years.

I was 12 and it didn't. I think people hear the word divorce and COMPLETELY overreact. They don't understand that they are divorcing for a reason beyond "bringing you pain and suffering." I can understand being upset, but when you have the whole "pity me"attitude I couldn't care less. Its better to have divorced parents, then unhappy, arguing parents who are more interesting in annoying each other, then spending quality time with their children. I haven't be affected at all. I saw them both regularly and still do to this day. There's no resentment whatsoever.

it affected me pretty badly cause i was the last to know
but i'm guessing that was just because i was the youngest.
it was a bad situation cause i didnt even realise it was happening to begin with, but i think i was just too involved in myself to notice.
another bad thing about my experience was the fact that i was forced to have no option. both of my older sisters moved in with my dad and i stayed with my mum. this was unfair cause i saw less of my sisters as a result of this divorce.

although if you are going through it, i understand it probably different for you, for everyone really. but as time goes on it does get easier and better.
